Good luck Erica!!

I had to take a week off since I've had a bad cough and cold. Still have the cough but its sloooowly getting better. i did 18 last friday in 3:05. My left hip was really aching the next morning. I did 5 today while doing hill work on the treadmill. My hip wasn't too bad until I got home and now it hurts again Chat Icon I'm going to do the elliptical and bike for a bit tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll recover for my 9 mile run on wednesday, if not then I'll stick to the elliptical and hopefully be fine for my 20 miler on friday!

Goodluck!!!!! Restup until then.

Re: Marathoners come in <3

I have not run in 3 weeks. I did try a 3 mile run as well as a little bike and elliptical and the IT band is still in a lot of pain.

My plain is to take off running the next 3 weeks - and only cross train and try to keep up with elliptical and bike. (It does not hurt during elliptical use or bike use but hurts after). So this gives me 6 weeks no running, yikes!

Then two weeks before the marathon I am going to try for a few long runs 10-16 miles and see if I can push through the pain or not. If yes then I will attempt the race. If no then I will defer, booo!

Ugh so I did not do so well on friday. I went out to attempt 20 and had to stop at 12 cuz my hip was killing me! I wanted to stop after 9, but I pushed myself thinking that maybe the pain would ease up, but it just kept getting worse. I did some research and it sounds like bursitis maybe or an inflammation of that area. Or it could be the bursa sac filled with fluid? I'm gonna see my dr. this week and hopefully he can help me out. My goal is to rest this week, and do 22 miles next week, then take it easy until Nov. 7th. I'm hoping maybe he can give me a cortisone shot or something to get me through this. I really want to cross that finish line, I've worked so hard all summer. This stinks Chat Icon

Glad that you stopped when you knew you had to. Your race is too soon to risk an injury now.

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation!!
take it slow. YOu will do better race day if you take care of your body now.

Great work all!!

Jean, what about not running 22? I have never ran more than 20 miles for training and most metric runners only run up to 30k (18.5 miles).

Hope the doctor gives you good news!

So far I've done 18 and the schedule I'm following has 20 as the longest run. I don't know why I feel like I have to do more, I guess it might make me feel more confident to get closer to 26.2. I might follow your advice and just do 20. The last thing I need is to overdo it! I'm getting so nervous! My dr. appointment is on Thursday, I'll let you know what he says!

Just got back from the doctor...basically it is the bursa, but its nothing serious. I'm going to take Aleve from now until wednesday, then do my 20 mile run and then taper. He said if its still bothering me then he'll give me a cortizone shot 10 days before the marathon. So hopefully I should be good to go!

Glad it's not too serious. I hope that the aleve works and that you are able to get through your last long run. Enjoy the taper! You've earned it!

Thanks girls! I'll let you know how my long run goes on Wednesday. We had a team meeting with Autism Speaks last night (a conference call) and they gave us a lot of good info. It just made me that much more excited for this race!
