Got quote for central ac

I just got a quote for central AC that includes the following (we have ducts that have to be replaced)

5 ton 13 seer 410a unit, all new supply and return ductwork (except in walls), airhandler suspended in attic, add additional ducts in 2 bathrooms and move duct from garage to laundry room. Move condenser from back of house to side. This would cost $6850.

For additional $1350 remove ductwork from walls and replace.

Additional $2300 increase seer from 13 to 16.

sounds reasonable to me!! 5 tons is a large unit, i would just make sure its appropriate (with central air, bigger isn't always better)

That is what I thought. My house is 2000 square feet colonial.

this was our hardest decision when getting the A/C. 5 quotes, 5 different sizes, so frustrating.

I think we ended up with a 2.5 or 3 ton unit (i can't remember)- we have an 1800 sq. ft. high ranch, so its an open floorplan too - i would just make sure that the 5 ton won't be too much (and a smaller unit should be cheaper).

i would ask the installer why they are going w/ 5 tons and have them explain it.

that dosnt sound too bad, If you dont mind what company did u get qutoed by? we are tossing with the idea of adding central ac to our house. We have forced air so the duct work is there already we realy just need a unit.

I think we have a 5 ton unit, and we have a 2100 sq ft colonial. We paid approx $5K for the unit and installation (excluding ducts bc we already had forced air heat). This was 4 years ago so your quote sounds reasonable to me!

Sounds very reasonable. I cannot wait to put ours in, but we are waiting until summer is over and hope for a better price.

It goes by the sq ft of your home, I have 1700 sq ft mine is 4 ton, so 5 ton should be the right size for you.
