3dt vs 5dt

Does anyone know what the difference is besides the obvious 2 days?

Why do some get a 3 dt over a 5dt? Im curious to know.

It really depends on how many embryos you have to work with after fertilization and how well they are doing ...

It also depends on the philosophy your RE has ( some feel they do better in the uterus, some feel that if they are cultured for longer it will further weed out the weaker embryos that may not have survived in utero thus giving the best chances for successful implantation)

If you do not have many embryos usually a 3 day will be done...

My RE always tries to do 5 day transfers when possible and will only freeze embryos that make it to day 5 ( or 6)

So....most offices have a cutoff # that they have to be above before they will go to a 5dt.
The thought being that if there arent that many perfect embies it is not worth the risk of waiting since the best place for the embies is inside of you. If there are more then whatever there magic # is however they will wait the 5 days with the theory that only the stong will survive & that way the strongest of the bunch will be trasnferred.

My RE's office cut off was 6 & we ended up with 5 & a 3day transfer. Transfered 2 & am now prego with twins!

Physiolicgically the embie is obviously at a different stage of development 5days is blastocyst stage.

I think the more you manipulate an embryo, the more likely it will arrest sooner. We did IVF with ICSI and both times we had a 3dt. And none made it to freeze in both cycles. I got a BFP both times on my 3dt's.
