Re: He will only take to one breast...

Have you been pumping the side he won't take? If not, I'm wondering is it possible that by some fluke there he isn't getting any milk on that side? I'm not sure what would make that happen, but I'm just looking for some explanation. Sorry you're having so much trouble. Chat Icon Have you asked your ped?

the soreness will go away eventually - maybe that breast did stop producing if he always refuses it. Maybe after you feed on the one side, pump on the other and see what comes out. If it makes you feel any better, the more the one boob is used, the quicker it will stop being sore and you;ll get used to it. Good luck - it's great you're bfing!

Definately pump on the other side to see what you get. My right breast is always alot more productive for some reason. Keep trying because sometimes it takes them a while and they willl get used to it..

It might be worth a visit to a lactation consultant. They are very helpful with positioning and latching and helping you heal so that BFing isn't painful.
I thought it was a natural thing but it sure wasn't. It took a lot of work and practice before I could actually enjoy it.

My DS did the same thing. On the right breast I used the cradle or cross over hold and on the left I used the football. I did this until he was about 4 weeks old after that I didnt ahve to any more, we both got use the crossover hold on the left breast. One thing though is to remember to pump the left because I didnt empty it enough and I did get a breast infection in that breast and I think that is what it was from which ended my breastfeeding at 5 1/2 weeks. He didnt want the breast anymore. It can be very frustrating, especially when they cry. This may sound silly but the only way I could get Luka to open up wide enough was when he cried, thats when I pulled him close. Good Luck

My son did the same thing, it was just a preference but didn't last a while. I kept at trying it and made sure I pumped on that side so it wouldn't always feel full. Eventually he went back to both sides. Good luck!

Definitely try a different "hold". Caiden was the same way. The football hold worked great for the one side that he wasn't comfortable with. Good luck!
