Q about hospitals

I dunno maybe I am naive but what do people seem to want to go to specific hospitals? I just assumed you go where the nearest hospital is as long as your gyno delivers there.

I just read about people visiting hospitals or checking out the rooms, etc - my SIL who had a very troubled pregnancy did that only because she had twins and was hospitalized numerous times because she had a hard time keeping them in so she had to deliver at a specific hospital but if its normal I don't get "touring"?

I am crashing here, and I did not go on the hospital tour...but I think it is visiting the hospital that you know your doctor delivers at, not a tour to pick and choose. You get to see where you would check in, where the labor and delivery departments are, the nursery and maternity sections are...so you are a little more prepared and not worrying about finding where you go when you are in labor.

Some hospitals have different facilities than others. I knew I wanted to deliver in a hospital that has an excellent NICU, just in case. A friend of mine had a baby in a hospital that doesn't, and when her baby needed extra care, they shipped him off to a different hospital and kept my friend where she delivered.

ITA..Also, I am picking my hospital b/c I don't want to have my child at the hospital closest to my home. Its has nothing to do with the hospital itself but more with the fact that someone whom I want no where near myself, DH and ESPECIALLY my future child works there.

Re: Q about hospitals

i picked my hospital based on where my pediatrician worked out of. i have an amazing ped, and it was an absolute necessity to have him see the baby when he was born. i didn't want any other doc but him.
