water through the skylight

we've been in our house for 2 years now, and in that time, its rained pretty hard several times.
We have a skylight in our dining room that has never leaked.. up until last night

Water was leaking really badly from what looked like two spots. We managed to put buckets under it and nothing got damaged (except for the paint on the ceiling around it)

My question is.. what do we do now? Should we have it looked at to see where the leak is? Should we just have the skylight removed?
I don't want to ever have that happen again, so if removing the skylight is the only option i'm fine with it.

I just have no idea where to begin..

We are in the process of getting our windows replaced. When they were giving us estimates, we asked about the skylights. Most of the contractors told us we would need to contact a roofing company.

Get the roof checked. While it's most likely the skylight causing the problem, it might not be. It could be a hole in the roof (missing shingle, stray nail, etc) higher up on the roof, and it's just dripping at the skylight. There's no reason why a skylight should leak, if it's installed properly.
