Yeah, MORE bedding questions - his vs. hers...

So DH and I are pre-shopping by looking online at department store websites to rule in or out what we like or do not like and I have come to a conclusion that his tastes are very different than mine. I'd like something with a swirly floral-ISH kind of pattern and he tends to like more geometric patterns which are far more masculine.

Questions:

1) How many of you have DH's that deferred to you in terms of picking bedding for your master bedroom versus them having an opinion/say?

2) When you DID confer with your DH, how did you settle on a pattern that pleased you both?

3)If you both decided together, can you post your bedding?

4)And finally, WHY does my DH have to care so much? I can get this whole thing done in 1/4 the time if he didn't. This is the same guy who walked around Fortunoff from the china department to the flatware department to make sure everything coordinated when we registered.

Given that we BOTH have to share the house, I try to please MY style and keeping DH in mind.

NOTHING is girly or froufrou. So I don't keep anything that DH does not like.

Sometimes I need to give him the "whole package" so he can visualize.

I buy a few options and I return.

Yes, I do A LOT of return.

Sometimes also because I like it in the store and it looks nothing like it at my house and I hate it.

ETA: Ground rules. Flowers are not allowed.

We are pretty much the same regarding florals...but if it's small he doesn't care.
I got some great bedding at Homegoods. I like to mix and match textures, so I bring it home and show it to him. At this point, we have gotten so many nice compliments on our place, he just lets me go for it.

We both aren't really drawn to patterns... so we ended up with two white duvet covers that we switch out. We left the patterns for the throw pillows.

dh also likes geometrics and leans toward anything black and white (can you say 80's time warp batman?)

I just end up picking what I like and ignoring his input.

I am so grateful that DH just does not care. He will give me an opinion when asked but overall I make all the decorating decisions. BTW-my taste may not be considered "feminine" by most peoples standards, just very minimalistic

I was in charge but kept his taste in mind. This is what I got...I love it and was so happy that he was happy with it too! It's from Restoration Hardware!

***DH pretty much gives me free reign - if he absolutely HATES something, I find something else.

***He deferred to me with the bedding - we have a royal blue and white toile.

These are the rules in our house:

1) We discuss what we each like, usually totally different. We come to a compromise.
2) He tells me to go buy it.
3) I buy what I want, knowing he's too lazy to return it for a different one.
4) We argue for the first five minutes about how I didn't get what we compromised on.
5)He eventually tells me that he likes what I bought, and apologizes for not listening to me in the first place and that he is happy that he married me.
6) Enjoy whatever it was that I just bought.
7) repeat for any additional items purchased

we both like gender neutral things when it comes to decorating - i don't like anything "girly" and i want our house to feel like a family lives here not a single woman so you won't find anything frilly or flowery here...

i have to say i am lucky (or he is lucky!) because we both have similair taste when it comes to decor and we pick out EVERYTHING together even the samllest of purchases..

our bedding is marimekko from crate and barrel in taupe...with white sheets, pillows, white throw...a leaf pattern and it's pretty plain...i would have preferred a print - something with a small paisley pattern from Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware but my husband doesn't like a lot of small pattern...so that is how we settled on the bedding from C&B

DH usually lets me get my way with most things, but when it came to bedding, he said I could pick anything as long as it did not have any flowers on it.

We still have the bedding we registered for, so we picked it together. Actually, I think I picked it & he concurred. We were in the store together since we were registering. It's beige with ivory tiny embroidered flowers, so it's subtle.

In general we do a lot of the decorating together though.

My dad, on the other hand sounds more like your DH. He has lots of ideas, and they often conflict with my mother's ideas, and their decisions take months.

Neither DH or I like patterns at all, we like clean lines, so it wasn't an issue although DH knows he doesn't have much say when it come to decorating

look at the hotel collection and add throw pillows to make it your own style macys, bloomingdales, and bed bath and beyond sell it, and I think I have even seen it on overstock, if not they have something close

I am very happy that DH literally didn't care so we have a country French/ Shabby Chic bedroom with floral quilt in summer and floral devet in winter

This was very difficult for us when finding bedding to put on our registry.

I love colors and even seashells/beachy, but he loves browns, blacks, whites, and grays in very boxy geometric patterns.

Well, since we had to do the registry and couldn't agree on one, we had decided to put two on the registry, one he chose and one I chose and we would change it out throughout the year. Well, mine wasn't purchased (was sold out online at that time) and his was. So you could imagine my mood
Well, after receiving it at the bridal shower, we were going to put it on the bed a month later and low and behold, it said King on the bag but a queen or full was packed inside! So it didn't fit oh wait, i mean

Anyway, we decided to look again, and now we have one bedding set we both love! It has shades of browns and greens and is geometric. (It helped that he bought me a beautiful island type painting that goes with those colors to hang over the bed )

So, just give it time, you'll find something!!!

DH and I both agreed on the bed sets we have. One for Fall-Winter/One for Spring-Summer.

1. One is solid navy blue and the other dark plaid green & blue (we had this set before we got married)

2. For the wedding we registered for:
-Calvin Klein set at Macy's that was sabertoothed red
-Off brand at BB&B that was various shades of light blue and green in circular shapes, swiggly shapes.

I'll see if I can find colors.

I'm in charge of decor and I learned a long time ago that he doesn't really care unless I ask him to weigh in. So, I don't. He always like the results.

Some times he threatens to buy something for the house but he never follows through.

DH didn't care one or the other what type of bedding -- he just thinks I have a ridiculous amount of pillows....
