Chat Icon So you're going to put LO in the day care fairly quickly then? This is my situation..MIL was suppose to watch our child (this was discussed about a year ago) so no need for day care. Since then she had an anurysm and she is now pretty much in a vegetative state Chat Icon. So now since we are going to TTC we are forced to put LO in a daycare at a very early age so that I can get back to working ASAP...I just feel so guilty putting my newly born child in a day care...I wish I could be a SAHM for at least the first year or his/her life.

12 weeks maternity and then Daycare. My son started daycare when he was 10 weeks. Not the best situation but it works for us and he loves his DC and so do we.

I had my DD in Sept. 2008 and never went back to teaching and I don't plan to for many years if at all. I had nobody to watch her all day as my family all still works and I didn't want her in day care. It was important to us that I be home with her so I am. Financially it's harder but SO worth it! i'm pretty sure I only get 8 weeks maternity leave, but am hoping to stretch it and use FMLA if I have to. want to go back no sooner than 3 months old.

No idea who would watch him/her yet. maybe MIL 1 or 2 days, maybe my sister, maybe daycare.

My job makes me use all of my sick time up (right now that is about 21 days) then the maternity leave kicks in which is only six weeks, however, I will not be returning to work for a few years!

Re: How long before returning to work?

I only get ( I believe ) 6 weeks for natural & 8 weeks for C - section. I will add my 1 week of vacation to that so, I will probably end up being out for 7 or 9 weeks.

I'm not even sure who would watch the baby, DH & I arent TTC till the New Year & we haven't discussed it yet (of course we will b/f TTC so to be sure we are on the same pg). Because of DH's job, he is usually home for about 3 days out of the week but it varies week to week. What would be ideal b/c, I know there is no way we can afford to have me as a SAHM (even though I would LOVE to), is if my job allows me to work from home at least 2 days a week. I figure for those days that we are both working, we can find a baby sitter. I honestly have no idea but I am going to do everything w/in my power to make sure DC does not go to day care. I know it works for some families but I just don't think I would be able to handle it.
