Re: to epi or not to epi
Before I went into labor, I hadn't decided if I would get one or not. I figured I'd see how I felt. My water broke on it's own and they gave me Pitocin to make sure he was born within 24 hours. Labor wasn't so bad - at least I don't think so. I had horrendous back labor - so bad it had me climbing the walls and I barely noticed regular labor. So I got the epi to ease the back labor and I would definitely do it again. The epi worked great on the left side but not as great on the right, so I still felt quite a bit of pain on the right. I don't think there's any way I could have gone without the epi.

OMG all I can say is EPI ALL THE WAY! I had way too many hours of labor without it and OMG how beautiful labor was WITH it!

Re: to epi or not to epi
Absolutely, my contractions were so intense I could not have labored through them. I got to the hospital and was 7 cm and asked for the epi. It was the best thing. It was on the entire time I pushed and I would do it again in a heartbeat, but at this point, no more kids for me!

Re: to epi or not to epi
had it, loved it. I was in pain for 12 hours before I got it, it made me feel 100% better. Made the internals so much easier. I was able to sleep when I got it.

Re: to epi or not to epi
I totally got one....knew I couldn't do it without. You can decide during your labor if you want it or not....it's one of those things you don't need to decide beforehand.
I give major credit to those who do without though!

Re: to epi or not to epi
I got an epi at 7-8 cm, thank goodness.
I can't even explain the relief I felt. I was so afraid of it but at that point I didn't care. I had a really good experience with it.

Re: to epi or not to epi
I had an epi both times. It was great, and made labor painless. After the 2nd epi I had a lot of pain in my back, but I'm not sure if it was the epi or broken tailbone.

Re: to epi or not to epi
I ask the lady at admission desk where the guy with the epidural was. I kept asking and asking until I got it. Iwent in knowing I wanted it right away.
My labor was great.

Re: to epi or not to epi
I think it is a very personal decision. There are pros and cons to everything. For some epidurals can slow labor, for others it gives them the rest they need to continue and have a natural birth. You may want to keep all of your options open and learn both sides of the story.

Re: to epi or not to epi
I was induced and when they turn up that pitocin I wanted that epi. Induction brings on heavier and faster contractions all at once. I had one and will with my next....no regrets........Had a beautiful birth experience

Re: to epi or not to epi
I got the Epidural and I think I may be the only one here where things didn't work out with the Epi. I still felt the pain. I don't think they did it right maybe that's why. But all I know is I still felt pain and then it was worse when they had to give me the pitocin on top of that!

Re: to epi or not to epi
I had to have one...C-section...but there was a woman who was also in labor who had just requested the EPI because she couldn't take it anymore. They were walking to her to give her the shot when my Dr. yelled out that we needed the TEAM NOW!!!! so they all ran to get washed up and ready for the OR....both anastialogits...(sorry for spelling) were in the OR with me. by the time we were done in the OR this poor woman was pushing. She never got her EPI because of me...I felt bad...but she had a healthy baby girl...so I didn't feel to bad.
