when is it time to see a specialist?

We are going on our 4th month of trying & even though I know it hasnt been that long, I am starting to get very discouraged.
I have been diagnosed w/endometriosis & had lap surgery last yr to remove a cyst on my ovary.

My Dr mentioned that when she did the surgery, my pelvis, tubes, etc all looked good.

I dont know what to do..do I go to a specialist to run test? my periods are normal, every 28 days and I O every month.

Maybe have your DH go for an SA before going to see a specialist.

Just a comparison: we are on to month # 5 now, but I do not O and my periods are not normal, so I will be seeing a specialist soon. I think if you O every month, give it a few more months.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would just call your ob/gyn, since your dr. knows your history. We have been ttc for 8 months now. I finally decided to schedule an appt. with the dr. to make sure that I am healthy. Then, it's my husband's turn. I would give it another 2 months or so. On average, most couples conceive within 6 months to a year of trying.

Just FYI, the average amount of time for a couple under 35 to conceive is 6 months - I just looked that up! I know it feels like forever (I'm feeling it too!). But if you O every month, and you're tracking your cycles so you know that you're bd'ing on the right days, the odds are in your favor for it to happen sooner rather than later. If it's not happening, then it's really not to terrible to ask DH to aim in a cup once and bring it in for testing, I guess. Especially if it eases your mind.

i always thought there was a "right time" to see a RE. But i feel, after going to one myself, that whenever you feel the time is right for you, you can go. Especially because the first visit is usually a consultation. You just talk about your history, concerns, etc. After having a conversation you and your RE make a decision about how to continue. I found it very comforting and reassuring to go.

Re: when is it time to see a specialist?

My GP said we'd sit down after 6 months of trying but my plan was to speak to her about it after about 4. I had very irregular cycles and was upset and worried. My appointment was all scheduled but I ended up taking a pregnancy blood test when I went in that day and it was positive. She wasn't surprised. But I can totally see how after 4 months you want to find out what's going on and see if they can help.

I have a good friend who was only 27 when TTC and after 10 months trying "naturally" her GYN did an IUI for her and it took on the first try. Sometimes a little extra help is all you need, so it can't hurt except in the wallet.

Wishing you the best & lots of baby dust!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: when is it time to see a specialist?

I was completely normal, have no issues and it took us 6 months (28 day cycles) of TTC to have DD...if we didn't get PG by the 6th month I think I would have talked to my OB

Thank you girls so much! I think we will give it a couple of more months & then we will see from there. I really dont want to have to see an RE, I just want it to happen naturally for us so we shall see.
you girls are the best!

I would see an RE now. It can't hurt. They will do a complete work-up on you and an SA on your DH. You never know, you may now have some scar tissue from your surgery that is causing problems. My aunt had endometriosis and it took her years to conceive so honestly, it can never hurt to see a specialist. You don't need to wait a specific amount of time before going. Probably nothing is wrong and you will get a BFP soon but at least going and getting checked out will give you some peace of mind. KWIM?
