Talk to me about OHSS...

Since I have so many eggs I am freaking out.

They told me to stay very hydrated and take it easy, but is there anything else I can do?

I've been trying to drink a lot of water...I will pick up some gatorade tomorrow.

I just really dont want any problems and want my retrieval/transfer to go well.

TIA.

Re: Talk to me about OHSS...

nothing else you can do as far as i know.

i had mild OHSS on an ovulation induction cycle (not IVF) where i had like 10+ mature eggs. i got so incredibly bloated that i couldnt tie my shoe an i looked about 5 months pregnant (there were rumors going around my office about me being pregnant Chat Icon ). i drank a lot of water but it just made me more thirsty. it took about a week post ovulation to subside but it was pretty uncomfortable at the time. it literally felt like i was carrying ROCKS in my ovaries.

if you are being monitored carefully by your docs, they will do what they can to make sure you don't get it bad. i have heard of transfers being pushed out to FETs if you have it bad though, because increasing levels of HCG with a pregnancy can make OHSS a lot worse so in BAD cases i do think they push for FETs instead of the fresh cycle. but like i said i havent done it before so I am only commenting on heresay.

good luck!!!!!!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So weird how my RE has you limit your intake to 1.5liters Chat Icon

I don't think theres much you can really do aside from what they have told you, and be very honest with them with how you are feeling kwim ?

The effects of hyperstim are heightened if you get pregnant, so make sure you tell them how you are doing ...

I was given something after transfer
Cabergoline (Dostinex)...to help with the OHSS

Stay hydrated, but don't drink tons of regular water. I drank lots of gatorade and coconut water (marathon runners swear by it b/c it hydrates you so well, but the amount of liquid isn't too much), and that seemed to help a lot. HTH!
