Genetic Testing
I'm 36 and DH is 44. Should we have genetic testing done before we start TTC? I asked my OBGYN about this and she said to wait until I was preggo for that?

Re: Genetic Testing
that is what I've heard as well. I think they are usually done once you are pregnant, and maybe if you are over 35. I know my 2 sisters had babies over 35 and didn't do any testing before.

Re: Genetic Testing
I opted not to have genetic testing when before we TTC our first.
Once I was pg, at 12 weeks they did an ultrascreen which was a prick in my finger blood test. They tested the odds of the baby being born with a genetic defect (downs syndrome, etc).
I would imagine once you do get pregnant they would probably recommend you getting an amnio also.
Some people with certain ancestry will opt to have genetic testing. For example, Eastern European Jews (Ashkenazi) will be tested for a gene that carries Tay Sachs, a genetic disorder.
