tons of crabgrass out of nowhere?
Is it just me or has anyone has gotten A TON of crabgrass out of nowhere?
Lawn has been looking great, but about 2 weeks ago I got so much crabgrass out of nowhere it seems.
I have a landscaper and I know he treated for it about a month ago, but damn its all over now!

Yes! I just put a call into our service telling them how bad it looks. I know the heat makes it come out really fast but if you are paying to have it taken care of they need to retreat.

we have tons of it and i got to start treating it but we have a lot of animals in our yard and i don't want them to get sick so until i figure out something safe to put down i will live with it.

our new sod even has it everywhere. our landscaper said to pull it out by the roots if we can. It's because of the heat. but it is out of control. our grass was really nice up until a few weeks ago.

Are they retreating it for you? Will they charge you for it?

That could happen. We have one spot like that, that we would have to reseed, but in the end I think it might be worth it. We haven't started to pull them out yet. We will see what happens I guess. I really don't want to have to pull them that is for sure.

My entire front yard is covered with this crap! If I pull it all out, my front lawn will be dirt!
Is there a fertilizer that can kill it?? Our lawn looks horrible after it looked great all of June and early july.

I know I normally wouldnt mind and just do it, but I feel like if I am paying to have my lawn dont I shouldnt have to. I dont want to sound like a primadonna here

It's definitely the season. Just as dandelions and other taproot weeds are winding down, crabgrass enters the season. I only found that out this year.
We cultivate a chemical-free yard so I don't have advice on that. If I had known earlier that there was a season for this, I would have researched, purchased, and tried the natural pre-emergent herbicide I keep hearing about - corn gluten.
The trick with pulling (as with all weeds) is to get it before it spreads and sets seed. I start pulling all the runners back to the main clump and when I have them all in both my hands, I pull straight up. That gets the roots and leaves a hole that I cover with dirt and mulch until we can put grass seed down again in fall. This is much easier when the ground is recently wet after a rain or watering.
When I find out enough about the corn gluten, I'll be posting it on my FB garden page and let you guys know if you're interested.

We have some large patches of weeds, so it would be an area that we would have to reseed really.  The sod was pretty while it lasted. The tool doesn't work for crabgrass. It's only for taproot weeds like dandelions.  I looked for the name and can't find it either. I bought one from Lowes myself but there was no tag with a name.
Mulch is what you put on top of the dirt to retain water and make it look nice - bark, rocks, pine needles, etc.
Compost is broken down organic material that you can add to the soil to benefit the plants. For all intents and purposes, it looks like black dirt.
Over time, mulch will break down and *become* compost as long as it's not something like rubber pellets or rocks. 
I have this conversation with my parents once a week, so I'm used to it.

Nuts! of course it doesn't work for crabgrass. So now I'll spend my week crawling around on the grass. GREAT!

It's also more obvious because the heat has caused the other grasses to turn brown whereas the crabgrass stays green so it stands out a lot more. Right now, I'm with the PP who pointed out that at least the lawn looks green!
