Do you regret Homeownership?
We are about to become first-time homeowners and I am starting to get some serious cold feet. I am pretty happy in our current renting situation but we decided to buy now(as opposed to years from now) so to take advantage of the low home prices and interest rates. We also wanted to live in a certain area (that doesn't have rentals available) and want to start a family.
While we bought a modestly priced home in great condition, I am dreading the stress of unexpected home repairs and responsibilities of homeownership.
Does anyone regret buy a home and wish they continued renting? Have you decided to remain a life-long renter by choice?
Is homeownership all it's cracked up to be?

I absolutely love my home and being a homeowner, except when there are problems. Like yesterday, when there was water in the basement after the major storm. Or having a huge sinkhole and needing to replace the water main, eight weeks after we moved in. Times like those, I really miss renting and it being someone elses responsibility. Its got its plusses and minuses, but overall I am glad we bought and love the feeling of "permanence".

I don't regret it but it is a constant money drain. There is just so much to do to make a house your home and get it how you want it. I also miss the stress free life of not worrying about mortgage payments and home repair expenses.
But it is nice to have a place that is OURS

i don't regret it 100% but there are parts of me that feel like its a battle for us every month to get the bills paid. I just wish we stuck with our original renn budget of 8K and whatever didn't get done could of waited because now we owe out money and trying to catch up is a PIA.

I was like you, I was terrified to buy a house. I thought it would be the end of life as I knew it. But, one year later, I have to say it's great! I love my house and I love all the improvements we're making to it. We bought a house on the really low end of our budget, so that it wouldn't be such a stressful, all-consuming transition from renting.
And I love that our interest rate is 4.5%!

Definitely do not regret buying a home. We own for 3 years now and we love having our own home. Sure there are stressful days of course, but we get past them. It's not easy owning a home some times, but most of the time is great. I wouldn't want it any other way. I love making our house a Home and something we enjoy coming home to every day.

I agree. We've been in our home 6 months. While there have been a few small unexpected repairs needed, we feel pretty good financially, and we love being in our home. I wouldn't change a thing about it!

don't regret it one bit
there's nothing like taking pride in something that you own, and taking the time to customize it to your liking.
of course there are financial responsibilities that come with owning a house, and they can get pretty hefty if things go wrong.. but so far for us its been worth i!
we've been in our house for 2.5 years and continue to be really happy with our choices.

I sometimes regret buying WHEN we did, but I don't regret the act of buying a home at all. I love owning our house. There are a lot of responsibilities, yes, but it's so nice to have something that's truly ours, that we can do whatever we want with and not have to deal with a landlord.

Regret wouldn't be the right word to use but after 3.5 years of home ownership, we learned that it's not for us so we put our house on the market.
We'd rather get out now than wait however long for significant market improvements, rent for a little while and then perhaps buy a condo.
