Went to the RE today - sorry, long!
I had a pretty tough day today. First, the GYN calls and leaves a message that she has test results she needs to talk to me about, but not to be worried. Don't be worried?! We played phone tag for hours before I finally got a nurse on the phone. Turns out that they found an infection when they took my pap smear and I have to use suppository antibiotics for 5 days, so no ttc for a while.
I was glad that was all it was, but I had been so on edge all day. Especially because my first RE appointment was this afternoon. It was just a consult - she wants me to have major bloodwork done after fasting, so that will be this weekend. Just from telling her my history she says I have PCOS. PCOS is apparently a kind of catch-all name for people with irregular cycles and a tough time ovulating, which I know I do, regardless of hormone levels or cysts.
So she ordered the blood work and a sono for me, then I'll take Provera to induce bleeding so I can start a new cycle (I'm only on CD29 and my last cycle was 74 days - I'm not waiting until October!), then I'll have that CD3 testing done, and then I'll have an HSG. DH will have blood drawn and an SA. A lot of this isn't necessary for PCOS but the way she put it, my insurance covers it so why not just get all the testing done now and cover my bases? So if it takes me 5 months to ovulate and I only have one day it's possible to become pg, I wouldn't waste the attempt with a low sperm count or one blocked tube possibly. Makes sense.
Oh, and DH was doing important family stuff today, which I totally understand and he really needed to do, but he couldn't be with me and also didn't answer my phone calls all day so I've been all alone with this. This day s ucks.

Re: Went to the RE today - sorry, long!
One more thing - she told me to stop temping and using OPKs as they're essentially useless to me. That kind of bummed me out. Temping made me feel like I had a little bit of control, or like I was actually DOING something instead of just sitting around waiting. I don't know if I should keep temping (and getting disappointed with fake one-day surges) or stop and just wait and always wonder. What do you think?

would temping make you feel like you have more control? if yes, then why not?? you will just have to remember that the surges aren't really telling you anything.

did she explain why she wants you to stop? does PCOS have something to do with it?

i am sorry you had a rough day but isn't it great to have a plan of actions? I think it is awesome and the testing will start so soon, so you will have definite results

Probably because it's useless to bother. I have irregular cycles and cycles where I didn't ovulate and what would be the point of my temping or using OPK's..........everything would be all over the place and it really wouldn't tell me much. Temping and OPK's are great for girls who are regular but for the rest of us who can go months without AF there is just no point.
Aside from that, once you're under the care of an RE there is no need to worry about tracking or charting anything because you will be there so often and they will be on top of everything. Between all the sonos and blood work I get to see my eggs at every stage in their development, I know exactly when I ovulate, I know exactly when AF will arrive and so on so really there is no point in my wasting time temping or using OPK's. I have a better picture of what's going on than most people.
Good luck with everything btw. Trust me, being under the care of an RE is wonderful and you will feel like you're making so much more progress with TTC than if you were trying on your own. If there is a problem, they will find it and they will do everything in their power to get you pregnant. Going to an RE was the best decision I ever made. After years of irregular cycles I started with an RE in Sept. 2007, went on 1500mg of Metformin to regulate my cycles, ovulated on my own in Dec., had one mature egg, one IUI, and I conceived my DD.

Thanks for that. It makes me feel good to hear how quickly it happened for you once you went to your RE!
I didn't realize that I'd be at the RE's office so often. But yeah, I'm going this weekend for blood, Provera next week then on CD3 for more blood, CD8 for an HSG, and the doc mentioned coming in for sonos to see if the Metformin is working assuming that's what they put me on.
Good thing I'm on summer vacation.
