It must be working
I have been going to hot yoga since February. And lately I've been slacking. Maybe going twice a week because I've been super busy with life in general. Anyways, someone at work came up to me today and asked how much weight I've lost. She said I look amazing!
Other co-workers have commented as well. I think I've probably lost about 8-10 pounds and maybe toned up a bit. But it made me feel good to hear this.
I HATE working out and this is something I have found that I actually enjoy.
Imagine if I could get there more than 2-3x a week!!!!

Re: It must be working
It's a 90 minute yoga class (always the same 26 poses twice in the same order) in over 100 degree heat and about 50% humidity.
Here's the link of where I go:
hotyogamassapequa.com
I highly recommend it if you can find a studio near you as well. The class is totally geared to beginners and even if you're a yoga rock star, it's still very challenging.
Two people got up and left the class I was at tonight after only a few poses. It's definitely something that takes some getting used to, but if you can stick it out for the first few classes, you may find you really love it.

My uncle lost 30lbs between doing hot yoga and eating better. He would go 3-4 days a week.

It's funny because I've seen a lot of "big strong macho type" guys go to the class thinking it was going to just be some easy stretching, and then come out, sit down out of breath saying this was the absolute hardest workout they've ever done in their life.

They say 3-4x ideally to notice a difference. The instructors encourage you to go every day, but I think that would be hard for the average person depending on what they have going on in their life.
My body can't handle the early morning classes.
I just actually emailed the owner to see if at some point he would consider doing a class around 9PM because that would be easier for me to make. Right now I mostly attend the 8PM class and it can be hard to get there depending on DH's schedule.
The classes also are 90 minutes, so when you average in travel it can be a big chunk of time. I also wish they would do a modified class---maybe 60 minutes and once in each pose.
Where I go I pay $145.00 a month for unlimited classes. The 10 class package is $160.00 so if you go on average 3x a week it works out.
I know some studios are more expensive.
I know someone who goes to a hot yoga studio in Plainview that also offers different styles of yoga and that may be a good choice to look into as well.

Re: It must be working
I would be afraid I would pass out from the heat. Has this every happened there?

Re: It must be working
I've never known anyone to pass out and I've been going (often to extremely crowded classes) since February.
I think it's probably more "psychological" feelings that come up. I have only had one experience where I felt like I was having a panic attack, but I sat out for most of the class and the feelings passed.
Surprisingly enough, this happened about a month ago. I think it was just one of those really hot days and my body was not hydrated enough.
