If you or your DH relocated because of your job

If you or your DH's company relocated (anywhere-not just to LI) and they asked for you to go with them, what kind of relocation package did you get? Did they do any of the following:
1) buy the place you lived at, 2) set you up with a new place such as paying rent for a year, 3) pay moving costs, 4) pay closing costs on a new house
5) any other situation

My DH got his job straight out of college, but they paid for his relocation (moving costs and for our hotel room, gas, etc when we were looking for an apartment - this was before we moved to the area so they only needed to pay for 2 nights while we scouted the area for apartments)

I can tell you what they did for my parents.

1) buy the place you lived at:
they were told they either had to sell their house or lease it. We decided to lease it for a year and then we bought it.

2) set you up with a new place such as paying rent for a year:
no, they paid rent for awhile and then bought a condo.

3) pay moving costs:
yes but that was added in to my dad's paycheck at the end of the year.

4) pay closing costs on a new house:
no

DH's old company offered him a promotion if we came back. They gave him $5,000 in moving expenses and paid for him to commute back and forth for awhile until I moved up.

For our most recent move, they paid all relocation costs (packing, moving, storage, plus our gas and hotels as we drove across the country). They also paid for two weekend-long trips to our new state so we could look for housing - that included hotel, rental car, meals, etc.

I should have negotiated closing costs. I didn't even think about it, to be honest, but now I know for next time!

DH and I work for the same company and we were relocated 2xs as a package, but more for my position.

The package we got depended on my position and our status as non-homeowners.

The first time, it was a lateral move due to the closure of our NY office. We moved to RI, received 5k for moving expenses and 5k kicker for miscellaneous.

The second time, it was for a promotion. We moved to NC. They covered all moving expenses, shipped one car (would have shipped both and flown us down if needed, paid for our hotel, gas, etc for the drive down and put us up in corporate housing for a few months.

If we owned a home before moving we would have had something in there about that too.

We moved for DH's promotion. We did not own a home in NY. They only paid moving expenses. I think they paid $3000, but I can't remember. That was all they did.

when we moved, the company provided comprehensive moving services (packed for us, provided all materials, moved us, unpacked for us, disposed of boxes + up to a month of storage if we weren't moving into our new place right away), 2 short househunting trips (hotel, transportation, meals paid), and a "moving consultant." they also shipped one car and paid for our flights.

We did not own previously so we didn't have to sell anything as part of the move

We've never relocated for work but I know my company's policy...this relates to a general manager level and above:

-they pay all moving expenses (cost of movers who pack and transport and unpack)

-They purchase your home from you if you can't sell within a reasonable amoutn of time. If you sell it yourself you get a $5k bonus.

-They pay for one time travel to go scout out the new area for you and your family.

-they pay closing costs of sale of old home and purchase of new home. If you decide not to purchase they will pay for temp corporate housing for about a month

Our cousin is being relocated)he is a GM for Olive Garden. He is going from Rochester to Charleston. They paid for the move and are paying his mortgage on his old house until it sells. Not sure what else, but if they are wanting to relo-I would say you have a LOT of bargaining power

DH & I never did but I know that my company gives you $3k max reimbursement AFTER you move. You have to provide receipts before getting the $3k. A few people have gotten more but these were high level new hires that were hired by one of the VPs and it was apart of their job offer.
