Girls who have used Clomid
Ok so my RE suggested clomid this cycle which caught me off guard b/c i was assuming we were just doing a natural monitored cycle.
Anyway - i know a million people have used clomid and its the lowest dosage - but im still hesitant to take something when there is nothing wrong with my cycle. I have the perfect 28 day cycle - O'ing every month around CD14. My fear is that the clomid will mess this up somehow.
Has anyone had a bad experience with clomid? Has anyones cycle changed b/c of using it?
Is it possible to overstim on 50mg?
Does anyone know the chance of twins on this dosage?
Thanks for any input

Re: Girls who have used Clomid
I currently finished my 2nd cycle of clomid. This is usually prescribed when a woman doesn't O regularly, which was the case for me, so I am a bit surprised that your RE is suggesting you use Clomid.
Thankfully Clomid has helped regulate my cycles and I have O'd regularly the past 2 cycles. They say the chances of multiples increases by aroud 20%, but it is not an exact science.
Hopefully this helps and you get your BFP. Good luck!

Re: Girls who have used Clomid
50 mg. is such a loooooow dosage I would no worry about being overstimulated. I am on my 5th cycle of Clomid and I am taking 200mg. Last cycle I produced 4-5 mature follies and I got a BFP but it turned out to be a chemical. I haven't had any side effects at all from the Clomid. I recommend taking it before bed to avoid any of the side effects. I have irregular cycles and I am on Metformin to regulate them but I still wasn't ovulating which is why they put me on Clomid. Did your RE say why they want to use Clomid if your cycles are very regular and you ovulate?

The RE is recommending clomid purely b/c i'll produce an extra egg or two and increase my chances of getting pregnant (and increase his numbers of getting someone pregnant ) If we were trying for a long time i think id be less on the fence about trying it but since we just got our male IF resolved (after 8 months of "trying") technically this is only our 2 month of trying

Re: Girls who have used Clomid
Hey! I went to the doctor on Monday and we discussed "next steps" and she also suggested possibly putting me on Clomid even though we have a male fertility issue. She said something to the effect that it will produce more eggs and increase our chances.

Well.......here's how it went. Except for the last cycle the first round of Clomid wasn't enough so they gave me another 5 days of Clomid in the same cycle which then resulted in mature follies.
1st Clomid Cycle - 50mg., didn't work. Then another round in the same cycle of 100mg.
2nd Clomid Cycle - 100mg., didn't work. Then another round in the same cycle of 150mg. **(Got pregnant but ended in a miscarriage)**
3rd Clomid Cycle - 150mg., didn't work. Then another round in the same cycle of 200mg.
4th Clomid Cycle - 200mg. - Worked! - 4 mature follies. **(Got pregnant but it was a chemical)**
5th Clomid Cycle - 200mg. Seems to be working. I had a sono today and I have 4 developing follies. I have another sono on Monday.

At only 50mg. I would take it and see what happens. It won't mess up your cycle and at worst you will have a few extra eggs ready to go. If you're really uncomfortable about it just tell your RE you would like to hold off since you have regular cycles anyway.
I forgot what it said in your OP but did you do IUI's? I would suggest that instead of the Clomid you do an IUI and maybe even B2B IUI's since you had male IF issues in the past. When I got pregnant with my DD I had an unmedicated IUI. I produced one egg on my own, took the hcG shot to ensure I ovulated, had one IUI and lots of , and I conceived my DD. I would look into. It's quick, painless, and can increase your chances of conception. Good luck!

My RE put me on 50 mg of Clomid initially for the exact same reason - increase the chances to produce more eggs, therefore increasing chance to get pregnant. I ovulate on my own, my cycles are very regular, and all the Clomid has done is increase my egg production slightly. I was on 50 mg and would get maybe 3 eggs each cycle, then was upped to 200 mg and produce 3-5 eggs per cycle (but not all grow to a mature size). My cycles have stayed just as regular, and i still O around the same time. Because i'm being monitored by the RE during the cycle, they sometimes trigger my O if the eggs are mature enough and i haven't O'd on my own yet - or sometimes my O coincides with the right egg size.
Of course everyone is different and reacts to things differently. The only symptoms i would have is night sweats while i was taking it, but if i took it during the day, i wouldn't get any symptoms.
The way i look at it, it will increase your chances of having more eggs - the more eggs you have, the better chance of getting pregnant. Yes, there is an increased risk of twins, but to me the risk is worth it. I think its a pretty low risk though, like 5% more than if you weren't on it. you're on a very low dosage, which is how they usually start you to see how you react to it.
good luck!

Re: Girls who have used Clomid
If you don't feel comfortable using Clomid, then don't. Tell your RE you want to try unmedicated, timed intercourse for a few cycles first.
There is no reason clomid should mess up your cycle. It may change the day you ovulate, but it won't stop you from ovulating, if this is what you are worried about.
I conceived my twins on clomid, but it was 150mg. 50mg didn't do anything for me. But I took it because I don't ovulate on my own.

Re: Girls who have used Clomid
The more I read, I am starting to fee that maybe I should see another doctor. I have not had any sonograms, so not suer if I am producing eggs/follies. My 1st appt is on the 25th, but it will be for blood work. Shouldn't they be monitoring me every month?

Yes.........especially if you take Clomid. I take my Clomid on CD3-7 so I have blood work and a sono on CD3, then again a week after I finish my Clomid, and then every 3'ish days to keep an eye on my follies. Just make sure if you take the Clomid and you stay with this doctor he is monitoring you closely. It's important.

Thanks. She is just my OBGYN, so I am going to see what happens after this next appt. If not I am going to have her refer me to her husband, he's and RE. Which is kind of neat.

Based on my experience..............go see the RE. You will be glad that you did. Don't even waste your time with an OB/GYN........especially if you're going to start Clomid.

Basically we have been trying for 9+ months but since most of those months there was no sperm - technically we are now "normal" and on our 2nd cycle.
With that being said - my DH has to take lots of meds to keep his levels where they are - and its not something the drs want him to take for a prolonged period - so the sooner i get preggo the better.
Also I am 34 and am at risk for early menospause (family history) so time isnt a luxury
