Would you have expected a "Thank You" or some sort of acknowledglement?

So yesterday afternoon, I looked out my kitchen window and see smoke coming from one of my neighbors backyard (their back yard comes up to my driveway).

So I opened my back door and immediately smelled wood burning, like a fire. They have this big tree stump in their backyard and I see it's on fire. I couldn't go knock on their door to see if anyone was home because my DD was napping in the house. So I called 911 and explained what I saw. It was a very small fire, but with the heat and the dryness, I was afraid it erupt into something bigger.

The police come, the fire department come, etc.... they are in the neighbors backyard putting out the fire, and after about 10 minutes or so, someone comes out of the house and asks what's going on. The officer told him, and explained that I called to have the fire put out. The officer also asked if he had just gotten home because they had rang the doorbell and and knocked on the door but nobody answered. The guy said, he was home, but watching TV.... After the officer explained the situation, the guy just shrugged his shoulders and went back in the house. Didn't even acknowledge me (I was in my driveway during all of this).

IDK... maybe I expect too much from people??? But I would have been extreamly grateful someone saw what was going on and got help before my house and someone elses house burned down.

I wouldn't expect one because people in general stink- but they should say thanks at the very least!!

Thank you is always nice, but you can't expect it from everyone. Sad that they didn't say thank you. But to you for doing the right thing.

Thank you for being such a good neighbor and keeping an eye on his property as well as your surrounding neighbors' homes.

SO weird!!! Your neighbors all sound like KOOKS. He doesn't care his backyard was on fire? Could he know details about your issues with the other neighbors and he too has an "issue" with you, hence no thank you?

They didn't say thank you, or even seem to care that their backyard was on fire!!? If it was my house, I would have been in tears thinking about all the things that could have happened had you not noticed it, esp since there are kids living there and I wouldn't be able to stop thanking you... people are such jerks... and that's really scary that the fire dept was knocking on the door and the guy didn't even hear it... weird

IMO, if I'd have been them, I would have turned what could have been a bad situation into a chance to at least meet neighbors by saying thank you. If they felt silly about walking around to meet their neighbors (I did) they could have at least come over to your house to say thanks.

From someone who didn't even answer the door for the police and fire department? I wouldn't expect much, honestly...

Did the heat cause the fire?
