Realtors, MLS and showing appointments
Just curious - do most realtors give you notice at least the day before they want to show your house?
Most realtors have given at least 24 hours notice, but I've had one call wanting to show it same day. We will accommodate anyone if it is at all possible, so I am not really complaining. I am just wondering if we should be prepared for same-day showings as a regular matter of course or if most realtors will give us 24-hours notice.
Is there any "norm" or does everyone do it differently? We understand that not every realtor and every client can plan far in advance. We just want to know what the norm is so we can be prepared to accommodate everyone.

No. The first showing on my house I sold was a family that just ended up knocking on my door.
Apparentmy my RE agent called me an hour before and left a VM (my ringer was off).
He apologized and said he didn't want to turn down the showing when he didn't hear back from me. I am glad he showed it without my OK because this family ended up making an offer and I ended up selling my house to them. For way above market too!
Don't turn down showings because you never know!
ETA: Just make sure your house is always clean and ready to show. Then it's not a problem.

My house is always clean and ready to sh ow. That's not a problem. We have pets that need to be secured or removed for showings, though.
I also never said I was going to turn down showings. I said I am trying to accommodate everyone and to do that need to know what the norm is.

Most of our showings let us know the day before. We had a few same day but there was a decent amount of notice. Like calling at 11am asking to come at 6pm. Good luck!

I have definitely asked my agent if we could see a house same day, when we've been in a particular area.. although the sellers haven't always let us see it.
1 seller told us no twice - once was over 24 hours and the other was same day. We didn't even bother with them after that.

We had a similar problem when we were looking at property OOS. They had more than a week's notice and two days to choose from... Turned us down. Property was #1 on our list, too. This is why I don't want to turn anyone down.

It was all over the place for us. The majority of appointments were made the day before, but we had a surprising number of "we're sitting outside the house right now, can we come see it?" calls too.

no - 24 hours was rare! we usually had appointments scheduled for the weekend so we were ready when last minute showings came. They usually gave a couple of hours, but we did have a 10 minute request!  
as for turning down showings...we had to turn down a few (not many) because we were living our lives. ie. we hosted a party for my niece's christening and I wasn't about to show the house while 50 people were in the backyard

I know when I was in real estate- whenever possible we always tried to give 24 hours- I would say during the week it was easier to accomodate- but there always seemed to be a lot of walk-ins on the weekends that wanted to see properties that day
if you can be flexible thats great- but if it is inconvenient definitely recommend an alternate time/day to the realtor
