Had my first acupuncture treatment yesterday
And it went GREAT! I was a little hesitant about doing this since my idea of relaxation does not normally consist of sticking needles into random body parts lol.
Anyway I decided to do acupuncture to deal with my irregular cycle and anxiety. I have never seen a RE and have not been diagnosed by a doctor with any reproductive issues. I felt that I wanted to try acupuncture since I think my irregularity may have something to do with my anxiety, and I do not want to take any meds especially since we are TTC. I am the type of person who does not like taking any medication since I do not like dealing with the side effects. If this does not work, then I will be seeing a RE.
Ok back to the treatment...
I went to Lighthouse Wellness Center with Dr. Cariann Peretta (a vendor on here). Dr. Peretta was so sweet and nice. She took me into a room, took my pulse, looked at my tongue and went over my medical history. I told her I wanted to work on TTC and anxiety issues. She explained how the needles work, I laid back and let her do her thing. She asked if there were any other issues that I might want to work on, it was kinda like the iphone app commercial...constipated? theres a needle for that. Migraine? theres a needle for that lol. I just stuck with the TTC and anxiety.
I had needles in my feet, leg, chest, and head (I think that was it) The one in my head and feet hurt the most, but nothing that I couldnt tolerate. The doctor left the room, I closed my eyes and drifted off for a bit. After awhile I started to feel heavy, relaxed, and a sensation going up and down my left arm. The dr explained that the left side is the emotional side and I was feeling that since we were working on the anxiety as well.
I left the office so calm and relaxed. I felt more relaxed then I have in a very looonnng time. Today I do not have any bruising and I still feel relaxed. Right now we are working on getting a period, then once that comes we will work on getting me to ovulate. I feel like I am moving forward on the right track to getting a BFP. Dr. Perretta explained that everyone responds to treatment differently so I am not getting my hopes way up that this will definitely work and its going to happen right away, but I do feel positive about this.
If you are on the fence about acupuncture, I highly recommend it. We all know TTC is very stressful and it was nice to just relax. I have two more treatments this week and I cannot wait! Check with your insurance company to see if they cover it. I was surprised it was covered by mine!

Re: Had my first acupuncture treatment yesterday
I am a huge fan of acupuncture!!!! And as I have said before on here, a very good friend of mine has a beautiful baby girl as a result of it!!!! She went because she never started ovulating after going off BC.
Good luck with it! I am positive it will work.
They are also very accurate in predicting the sex of the baby...........

That's awesome you had such a good experience.
I have been going to a fertitlity acupuncurist for a while now and I love it! She makes me drink awful herbs on top of the acupuncture but I have two friends who went to her (both with fert problems and they are both preggers now! )

Re: Had my first acupuncture treatment yesterday
i started acupuncture right after my second chemical. at the beginning of that cycle i decided i would try it if i didnt get a BFP that cycle. i did get one but obv. it didnt end well. i also have PCOS and some additional complications due to PCOS, so i figure it cant hurt to try it.
anyway i love it so far although i hear it takes several times before you start seeing the effects. this week will be my 4th appointment. unfortunately my insurance does not cover it and its fairly expensive. but at this point im willing to do anything to help. i hope i can continue to go but DH is out of work right now and $$ is tight although my mom is helping me out with the acupuncture specifically. its really too bad more insurances dont cover it, i would go 2x a week if mine did.
i figure after having to do follistim and ovidrel and sticking myself with syringes - tiny little hairlike needles would be a piece of cake!! i do find it pretty relaxing. i was really surprised at the physical response i had. i thought that a lot of what i would feel would be in my head. but when he put the needles in and i left the room, i immediately felt like freezing, the same way that you feel really cold when you come out of anesthesia. that passed after ten minutes or so. then i could feel just all sorts of movement going on in my body - like little tingles here and there around areas the needles were in. it was really cool. ultimately it was really relaxing. i even fell asleep the second and third times!!
anyway although im not sure i have seen any direct impact on my fertility (im on CD27 in first cycle post chemical m/c with no O yet - although i rarely O without meds anyway) i do recommend it. i am also on herbs, mine are in pill form. a mix of different things for fertility such as buplerum and peony.
