I want to know what doctor would do IVF on a 70 year old...this is just sad for the children.
But the mom got to experience the joy of having a child. If there were no real medical risks (at the time of the IVF procedure) what doctor can judge who is and who isn't fit to be a mom? I am 30 years old, should a doctor not do IVF for me because I could get hit by a car tomorrow?

No def not but I just think that at 70 life expectancy isn't as high and it's not really fair to the child. But I do see your point and you are right in that aspect. I didn't look at it that way.

I think to each their own and it is her body, her choice.
What I don't get is why they're calling her the "World's Oldest Mother" plenty of mothers have lived longer than her. Shes the oldest woman to give birth.
I do find it sad that this poor kid could potentially become an orphan, though.

Life expectancy in India is 64. I just checked. So when she went through the treatments, the mother and her doctors knew that this child would be a very young orphan.
I do think that life is precious and that any new, healthy life brought into this world is a good thing... but I also think that the mother and her doctors were being frivolous and short-sighted here.

That's totally different from a 70 year old having IVF IMO. Accidents happen and there's NO WAY I would ever say a dr shouldn't give IVF to a 30 year old because they could get hit by a car. BUT a 70 year old.. that's totally different.
Sorry... I'm not on board. I don't know many 70 year olds who are healthy enough to be pregnant and give birth. And then on top of that there's always... their life expectancy age. I mean they are going to be 80 years old when they have a 10 year old! My grandmother is in her early 80s now and I CANNOT imagine her having a young kid now!! Even when she was in her 70's to be lifting a baby up for a few years would have been A LOT of work and strain on her. And my grandmother is in GREAT shape for a grandmother!!!
For me... this is along the lines of that Natalie Sulomon having all those kids and the doctor's just doing whatever she asks.
Sometimes it's all about money I guess.

Kerri, I wrote out almost the exact same thing a few hours ago but then didn't post it cause I thought this thread was gonna turn into and I just wasn't in the mood for it today! I completely agree with everything you said, right down to the Nadia Suleman comment.
