Hi - I have a question for you ladies...
I'm new here and please don't be mad - I'm not TTC... yet. But I figured if anyone would be able to answer my question, you all would.
I'm going off BCP now (tomorrow is my last "active" pill) in preparation for TTC in about Dec. - Jan. (we got married last month)
I've been on BCP for 15 years and want to give my body time to adjust before TTC. My question is, when do I need to start using another method of birth control? I'd be due to start a new pack this coming Sunday.
Thank you so much - from everything I've read, you guys are really on top of this stuff.
Best of luck to all of you

I'd start using another method of BC immediately. You may not ovulate for a few months, or you may ovulate right away. If you don't want TTC yet, I'd definitely take precautions now.

Welcome to the boards...
I would go right into a new method of birth control bc some women can become very fertile after coming off the pill.
Ask all the questions you want, the ladies on here know so much info and can be very helpful

Welcome! Like the other ladies said I would start using another method of BC right away. BCP's don't stay in your system, as soon as you stop taking the active pills they're gone.

Ditto what the other ladies have said.
BCPs only work when you take them every day, same time every day. So once you miss a few at the beginning of your cycle, that's it, you can go right back to being fertile.
It's a good idea to stop them months before you're ready to try though; me and lots of other girls on this site have had problems ovulating after coming off of BCP. It's been 4 months for me and I haven't yet.

thanks so much all of you. i'm also glad to hear that i'm not nuts for going off BCP before TTC. Some of my friends are like "well, why would you stop BCP now???" I'm on such a low-dose pill that I haven't gotten AF in a few years. I'm just concerned that my body is going to be all confused for a few months.

i'm in a similar situation. we don't plan to ttc until next year but i am going off my bcp now. today is my first day since i am on the placebo pills. it is kind of scary but i am also glad i am doing it because i think the pill has made me overly emotional. i have been on the pill for a couple of years now and have not gotten my period in a really long time. i am concerned about that so i figured i would give myself time to regulate and take things from there. good luck!

Re: Hi - I have a question for you ladies...
I went off BC two years before we were ready to TTC. (I was on it for 11 years.) I think it's great you're giving your body time to adjust. Definitely start keeping a calendar with your cycles.
We used backup BC until we got married and even for a few months after that until we were ready to start trying (or stop not trying). Condoms until we got married, and then a mix of them and p&p.
Good luck! & Welcome!
