Anyone painted their foundation concrete? Any pics?
I am contemplating it. We are getting a new patio in the next week or so and I am thinking the gray might look better white. Bad idea? Will it just call attention to it in a bad way - it's not like it's the prettiest part of the exterior. Anyone do it and regret it? Love it? Anyone?

It peels over time. Once you start, you have to keep up with it. That's why I would not.

What about having it re-coated with a tinted concrete? I think my boss had that done when she had a stamped concrete patio done. They can tint the concrete for you and by applying the new coat it would look more even and finished that the original. Not sure what the cost is but if you check at HD or Lowes you might find that you can get the tints for the concrete and do it yourself.

Hmmmnnn.... Hmmmmnnnn... Maybe! I never thought of this. DH would not be on board with spending more $$ for something done professionally between the patio and a new sectional ordered but I might check it out and see if it's possible for me to do myself, Karen. I have an area that has fencing around it where we keep garbage cans and recycling so I could try it over there and see how it looks before deciding to do the rest. Thanks. The unsightly peeling is what I dread about painting.

My mom does it! It has been 10 years and she has not done it but one time! I love the look. It makes the house look 100 times better than the cement look. You just need to get cement paint.

After we had our deck removed and patio put in, we found this on the foundation:
I couldn't find a full pic of the back after I painted it, but you can kind of see it here, on the right of my rain barrel:
It doesn't look as dark in person.
A few notes about the experience... We had to get all the crap off the foundation before we painted so we got some wire brushes with scrapers on the end. DH did that part. Then I went to Lowes and found that paint for concrete doesn't come in that many colors. I chose the only gray they had, since I wanted it to blend in, not be a focal point.
Then I took out my painting tarps and used a roller and brush to do the job. It didn't take me long at all, I was just careful not to drip the paint on my pavers! This was last year, I've seen no change or flaking of it at all.
In the second picture to the left is the never-painted foundation. I chose not to paint it because I filled that planting bed with taller plants that will become a focal point. I don't think most people notice it at all because of everything else there is to see there.

Ours was painted by the previous owners. I imagine it was done quite a few years ago but it still looks great. I'll try to get a photo later.

I recently stained concrete steps and a wall in my backyard. The stain (solid) is sold in a variety colors or can be custom mixed. I bought the stain at Sherwin Williams.
For an outdoor project such as mine or basement walls I would not hesitant to stain concrete but IMO I would not bother with staining the foundation. IMO it seems unnecessary.
