CD 58 and I'm going nuts! Will they test me for stuff?

My cycles were always 40-70 days long. Then I went on the Pill for 11 years. It's 4 months after going off BC pills, and my first cycle was 50 days.

Now, in my 2nd cycle, I'm on CD 58. I made an appointment with a new OB-GYN for June 25 - the first day he could see me. Will he test me for certain factors that are making me irregular, or tell me it's normal because I just came off the Pill? I don't think it's normal - like I said, I never had a cycle less than 40 days, not in my whole life. And if he tests me, what do they test for?

have you ever been checked for PCOS?

You're cycles sound just like mine. I was diagnosed with it at 17yrs old. My cycles range from 40 something days to the occasional 100+ daysChat Icon

honestly, only some ob/gyns will take you seriously. some will tell you that its just coming off of BC, and the better ones will get some testing done. if you find you arent getting the attention from the ob/gyns i would consider making an appointment with an RE. they will do a thourough workup. if it comes back that nothing is wrong, you just have longer than average cycles, you can always go back to your ob/gyn. but from all my experience and the experiences of many on these boards - ob/gyn just dont do the same type of investigating, they either just throw meds (clomid) at you and tell you to come back when you get AF, or they dont take you seriously and say that it will regulate within 6 months and not to worry and to come back if you arent preg by then. RE's take a lot more time and care. 40+ day cycles in general aren't normal - could signify an O issue or PCOS (i have PCOS and have had completely abnormal cycles since coming off BCP), so if your ob/gyn wont investigate the issue i would def go elsewhere to see whats going on and if there are any ways to O earlier in your cycle so that you have shorter cycles and better egg quality, and a better chance of a sticky BFP.

You're really lucky (IMO) that you got your first cycle in 50 days after coming off the pill. I went off after 11 years and never got my first cycle... so after 90 days my GYN gave me a pill to kick start it... the next cycle came at day 87 on its own. The one after that, he had to give me another round to get it to come.

After those almost 9 months, it started to come on its own... but totally all over the place. 54 days here, 34 days there, 85 days another month, etc.

Since you're already TTC, your OB should take you way more seriously and try to get you regulated and make sure you're Oing (I wasn't TTC at the time so we just kept vigilant watch and I tracked my cycles regularly).

We didn't start TTC until just about 2 years off the pill. I got PG within 3 months of our starting to try (even with my cycles still completely wacky). So it definitely can happen!

I've never been tested for PCOS. The GYN's I went to never seemed to care that my cycles were long because I was never ttc before. Plus, I looked into it and I don't have any of the other symptoms associated with it (body hair, heavy body weight, acne). Can you have it if your only symptom is missing/irregular periods?

I've always wondered why my OB-GYN's didn't ask more about it or care when I told them that my cycles last 2-3 months and that AF is often 10 days long. I guess that when you're not ttc it's easier to just put you on the Pill to regulate you and send you on your way.

yes, PCOS is a collection of symptoms that manifest differently for everyone. so long cycles could def be your only symptom. BUT just cause you have long cycles does not mean something is definitely wrong and def doesnt mean you have PCOS - but it couldnt hurt to get checked out.

i disagree with the PP that just because you are TTC does not mean the ob/gyn's will take you seriously, unless you have a really good doctor that you are fairly close/open with. there are too many people on here, including myself, that had no luck with ob/gyn's and didnt actually get d/x'd or treated until we saw RE's.

Re: CD 58 and I'm going nuts! Will they test me for stuff?

When I went to my gyno she basically brushed it off and said my cycles are going to be irregular esp. since they were irregular even before I got on the pillChat Icon After that moment, I was like forget this- if I dont get preggo in a couple of months on our own Im going straight to an RE....which is what I did and my 1st cycle I got put on clomid and Im on my 2nd cycle and Im on femara and now I O MUCH earlier!!! I was O'ing anywhere from day 26- 30!

Re: CD 58 and I'm going nuts! Will they test me for stuff?

One of my closest friends also has irregular long periods. Hers are 30-90 day cycles. They've been TTC for about 6 months. She went to see the obgyn and her doctor told her she isn't considered "trying" for 6 months until they used ovulation kits and she should seek help after "trying" for for 1 year. I think a lot of doctors use that 1 year TTC before seeking help.

If you do visit a doctor, you may want to say you were TTC for longer if you do want help sooner than later.

Good Luck and I hope you get tested! I wanted to add that three of my good friends have PCOS (all Moms now Chat Icon ) and none of them had the symptoms you mentioned - acne, body hair, overweight..... so I wouldn't rule it out. They all went on clomid - one needed IUI for her first child and conceived her second child with no medicine, no IUI.

Re: CD 58 and I'm going nuts! Will they test me for stuff?

I have PCOS and have none of the symptoms except for irregular/missing periods. I had one doctor totally blow me off when i went 4+ months without a period. Had really long, irregular cycles as a teenager, went on BCP for 9 years and then when I came off they were long and irregular again.
If your dr. says its "normal" go to another one who will take your concerns seriously.
