Spinoff to working moms

What time do you usually get home from work? Do you get enough time to spend with your baby at night? I don't get home till 7pm and it seems like my child can only stay up the latest is 8pm and she is out for the night. Sometimes she's ready for bed at 7:30 which gives me no real time with her at night.

How does everyone do it? It makes me sad to know I don't see much of her Chat Icon

I get home at 6:30pm, I have till 7:30pm-8:30pm to eat with them, bathe them, pjs & bedtime stories. So no, there is never enough time to spend with them.

How do I do it? You just do what you need to do. I make the most of the time I'm with them - on the weekends, at night, mornings, etc. DH cooks dinner - while I play with them, dance, etc.

It makes me sad too. Joseph told me he wanted two mommies - so the other one could go to work & I could stay home with him (an odd request from a kid who's friends are all at daycare). I told him going to work was my job & his job was to go to school & learn. Even if I was home all day, I'd be home by myself.

On a good day I get home at 6:45/7:00. I have an hour to cram in (like Barbara) dinner, bath, story and playtime. It is not enough Chat Icon

Lately I've been working 10+ hours in Manhattan which means I leave before Andrew wakes up and get home after he's gone to bed. That is the worst.

I definitely try to make up for the loss of time on the weekends.

Barbara, that is excellent and I hope you don't mind if I plagerize that statement from you when Amber gets olderChat Icon

I work from roughly 9:00 a.m. to somewhere between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. at night (2nd job). I was also doing Real Estate on the weekends and cut back because I was getting burned out and not spending enough time with her. She stays up until I go to bed (which is usually around 11:00 p.m.). Not an ideal arrangement but we do what we have to do. She won't go to bed any earlier than that because she wants to make sure she sees me before she goes to bed.

Re: Spinoff to working moms

I have my precious blackberry, so even though I start "working" at 9 am, I drop her off at daycare anywhere from 9:00am to even 11:00 am on a less busy day before I hop a train to NYC...so we spend a few hours in the morning together, which I love...

I get home anywhere from 6pm on a great day, to 7pm on good days, and if I have an event sometime 11pm-ish...

Bella is clockwork for bed at 8 pm-8:30 the latest, so when I get home it's all Bella...I feed her, feed me and DH, play with her, and bathe her all in that time...it's stressful, and DH and I tangle over stupid things now, but we are getting better.

DH used to pick her up at 4 pm so when I got home she was all mine...right up to the nighttime cuddle before bed. But he recently started a new job and picks her up at 5:45, so he has been hogging her Chat Icon so we have to work that out.

The weekends are the best and I truly think that we make every second we are with her count because she seems to be flourishing in the situation...she adores me and DH and I was afraid she would start to pull away when she spent all that time in daycare...

It's hard, but I look at the end product, giving Bella everything she needs without worry...unlike my childhood...

Re: Spinoff to working moms

Molly goes to bed at 7pm..maybe 7:15pm. She is just exhausted when she gets home from daycare. I get her anytime between 4-5pm. I really get 2 to 2.5 hours with her at night. I get about 1 hour in the morning. It is NOT enough time.. I get sad about it. But it is what it is. I do have all day Friday with her home with me so that helps me too.

I also get home with her about 4 and she goes to bed around 8:30 or so.

She usually takes a nap in there somewhere.

There is never enough time.

I pick the girls up at 4:00 and usually when I get home, it's feeding time for Peyton so Delaney will play with her books and then it's dinner time, bath time and then they are usually in bed by 8:00 the latest! I try to make the most of dinner time and bath time.

I get 1 - 2 hectic hrs with him in the morning. I get home at about 6pm and he goes to bed at 7pm...7:30 if I really push it. So all I get is an hour with him at night. Yes, it makes me sad, very sad but I have no choice. So on a good day I get 3 hrs with him. I try not to think about the quantity and focus on the quality. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to working moms

Well I get up between 6:30 and 7am get myself together DD usually wakes up around 7-7:15am get her ready FH drops her off at day care I finish getting ready and off to work I go I get home about 5:45 6pm I pick her up from daycare then I cook dinner for all of us. After dinner I play with her a bit then I give her a bath and get her ready for bed we lay in my bed and watch oneof her movies together this is usually around 8-8:30pm she will fall asleep in the middle of the movie or we go into her room after the movie and I lay with her till she falls asleep. On the weekends I make sure I spend all my time with her as much as possible. On friday after she is asleep I start cleaning my appartment so I dont' have to do much on the weekend. I get up early on Saturday and I go to the laundromat and when I get home from that I just usually have to dust and she loves to help with that. Then we get ready and go out for the day or just stay in and relax together.

I leave my house at 5:30am so I don't get to see her in the morning. I pick her up at night around 6:30 - We get home around 7:00pm. I try to keep her up until 7:30 - 8:00pm so that DH can see her and say goodnight. I hate the days that I have to go into the city. Thankfully I work from home 2 days a week, otherwise I would be a basket case.

Re: Spinoff to working moms

I get home on the dot at 5:30pm. I pick her up from daycare and play with her until 7pm. DH cooks dinner while I usually put her to bed at night. The only way I can do this is by going into work early, around 6 or 7am, or by doing work at home after she goes to sleep. Most days she wakes up at 5am or 6am so I try to get in another half hour to hour of quality time in the AM. On the weekends I spend every waking moment with her and make every second count...

Re: Spinoff to working moms

Benjamin wakes at 6:15 am and I spend about 1.5 hours just playing with him. Then he Daddy is in charge while I get ready for work. I get home at 6:15 and just spend every seond with him. I play wiht him for a litle bit, than get his food ready. Even while I prepare his food, I make DH stay with Benjamin in the kitchen so we are together. Also, I try to get as much as possible prepared the nigth before for i can qiockly throw his diner together.

After he is fed, we bath him, i give him his bottle and off to bed he goes, which is at 7:30. So no, I don't have much time with my boy, but on the weekend we are together!!!

I always try to do that as well, no matter how tired I am. That way things are done and i have all weekend to spend with my pookie!

Excellent idea, ifferChat Icon

For those of you that get home early (3-5pm) or can work from home at least 1 day a week - what do you do? I'm in the midst of looking for a job, or figuring out what to do after the baby is born - would love some ideas.

My job is not typically a work from home job so I can't help you much..but I am a director of PR and Marketing. 99% of the time that is an in-office job and you need experience for it.

I get home the earliest at 5:30, if I get held up at the office, sometimes 6-6:30. Chat Icon

Ryan goes to bed now around 8-830 and it upsets me that I only get 2 hours a day with him.
