What color to do?

My dh is going to kill me if I dont decide what I am doing with this new kitchen he is putting in. The room is only 10 x 10. the dining area is attached but separate, it could be considered a diningroom but it really is too small to be considered formal.

Anyway, I already have a design I love, and I have to put the washer/dryer in my kitchen but thats ok. So, originally I was going to do white cabinets and white appliances, then I thought that might be too white, then I was going to do black appliances to break it up, but then I saw the cherrywood cabinets and stainless steel appliances together and thought I might like that. I really need your opinions, my hesitation with the cherrywood and stainless is because the room is small and only has one window and the door I am putting in will have a window but I still dont think that will be enough light.

Right now, he is still gutting it down to the studs and has to re-build it, so I do have a few weeks but I have to start ordering cabinets, appliances, tile and pick out counter top.

For a smaller kitchen area in my mind lighter colors are better becuase they open up the room and make it look larger. I think the draker options would look great if the room had more light or was slightly larger, but with a 10x10 kitchen the darker cabinetry/appliance combo would make me feel closed in. Others might like it b/c the dark could receed into the wall, but I think I like lighter appliances because that is just what I am used to. You could also do lighter wood cabinets with white appliances if you wanted to break up the all white feeling in the room.

I love the the look of cherry cabinets with stainless steel, but I didn't have a choice and have white cabinets with white appliances. Our kitchen cabinets used to be a distressed-yellow color and we just painted them. It's a huge improvement. I do like a white kitchen and bathroom - I think it looks crisp and clean, but I love the kitchens I have seen on here that are cherry.

If you are concerned about the color being too dark, maybe you could go with a light beige countertop. I think that would look nice. Sorry, I'm no help at all.

I say cherry with black appliances. It's sleek, clean and you can do a lighter color on the walls. I agree, stick with a ligher countertop as well.

Personally, for a smaller kitchen, I prefer lighter colors. For our last kitchen we did white beadboard cabinets with white appliances and I loved how it came out. In fact, I like it so much that we're doing the same exact thing for our new kitchen

I picked cherrywood with the stainless steel/black appliances. I love the way that looks and that is what DH and I are getting in our home.

I'm partial to the cherry/stainless combo...here is my kitchen during the inspection. We've changed the wall color and but I don't have any pictures that show it well.

I love cherrywood cabinets but I think I'm the only person on this board who doesn't like stainless steel. Two reasons, I think a lot of appliances in a small space can look cold and the fingerprints from kids will drive you absolutely crazy. My SIL got her fridge in stainless and returned it after two days... the fingerprints from her 8 and 10 year old were driving her nuts and she is an OCD neat freak. I know there is a brushed finish that doesn't show as much but not every appliance comes in it.

I did cherry and black. Probably everyone, including the pope, has seen my kitchen but here it is again.

The kitchen in our first house (sold it last summer) we remodeled using white appliances (they were hand me downs from my SIL who did her kitchen a few months earlier) and extra high cabinets in a seaspray color. It was a very small kitchen, probably 10 by 10. There is a floor to ceiling pantry on the left hand side of the picture.

I am having the same dilemma. We just bought a condo and it has a small galley kitchen. We are completely gutting it. Initially, I wanted dark cherrywood with stainless steel but realized it would be really dark. I don't like white because we have it in our apt now and it gets sooo dirty sooo fast. So, I think I have decided to go with a lighter cherrywood or maple with stainless steel appliances and lighter countertops (initially I wanted dark). I think it is a nice in between.

We have light cherry and stainless steel. You could also do white cabinets and stainless steel. That looks really nice. I think the black might be to much imo.

The cabinets that I am in love with now are the antique white ones. I think they would look great in a smaller kitchen because it will brighten it up - and the antigue white is just beautiful!!!

Out kitchen is small also and is open to the "dining room". We decided to knock down one of the walls and build an island there, sine the kitchen was so small we felt closed in and we also neede more cabinet space. We went with a light maple cabinet color and originally wanted stainless steel appliances, but at the last minute I changed my mind and wanted black. We thought thses colors would flow better with our dining room and living room since it is all pretty much open now.

I think if you did dark cabinetry like the cherry wood it will make a small room feel even smaller and more closed in. And with only one window I think the room would be very dark. I would do white on white.
