Those of you w/dogs
What do you do about them peeing in the yard and ruining the grass?

Re: Those of you w/dogs
We take Jensen out on a leash to his "spot" on the side of the house to try to avoid that.

Re: Those of you w/dogs
i dont have a dog now, but at my parents house we do. We walk our dogs, but when they would be out back with us playing/running and would go.. we would hose down that spot with water.

Re: Those of you w/dogs
My dog has been peeing on our grass for almost 2 years now and we don't have any spots on our lawn. I think it really depends on the type of grass you have.

Re: Those of you w/dogs
We designate an area on the side of the yard for him to go to the bathroom. It doesn't always work. I also saw they have a fake rock, with a scent on it(like the scent on a wee wee pad) that you can put in an area and the dog will go to that spot to go to the bathroom.

Re: Those of you w/dogs
1. Char has a certain spot she is trained to go to - the "piddle" spot.
2. We give her a vitamin once a day that makes it so her pee does not stain the grass. You can buy these at any pet store. They have a few different brands - ours is called "Green Saver".
ETA: We put the vitamin in her food.

Re: Those of you w/dogs
Before we got our dog, I intended on training him to pee only in one area, but honestly, we don't really concern ourselves with it now. We prefer a more natural yard anyway, and there are some things that we feel are just futile to try to control. I don't even notice where he goes.
If you want to follow your dog out with a pitcher of water, flush the area right after it pees so the chemicals in the urine that would affect the grass are diluted into the soil below the roots.

Re: Those of you w/dogs
We leashed him for all of his puppy hood, so now when off-leash, he knows where to go. We got complacent this winter and let him pee on the snow (b/c it was impossible to get to his usual spot), so he's made a few "mistakes" this spring, but for the most part he pees in our mulch.
