Is this rude or is DH overreacting?

We rent. As per our lease, our yard and landscaping is our landlord's responsibility. We've lived here three years now (just about)

Last summer, our landlords (they are elderly, and live across the street) hired a service to come do the lawn. By the end of August, they stopped paying them, so the company stopped coming. Around November, my landlords and their adult daughter came over and cleaned the front lawn but not our (large) backyard.

Today, someone rings my bell and tells me they are here to do the yard and I must move the cars and DS' toys immediately. I asked them if they HAD to do it today as DH is in the middle of a tour and has to sleep, they said yesChat Icon

While I am happy that someone is here to do it so we can use it, DH is PIZZED b/c they know he works overnights and feels that they should have asked us first for a day where he didn't need to sleep...

I turned on the AC for DH, but he is really annoyed...(apparently at meChat Icon ) and I feel bad for my husband...

I guess this whole long drawn out thing is asking if some notice would be too much to ask with this circumstance

Re: Is this rude or is DH overreacting?

Don't even get me started , I am dealing with some crap at my rental house right now !! I would be pizzed because I work nights also ,and IMO they should have let you know !!

I had an awning over my deck in the back , but it collapsed during our 1st snowstorm , well it took part of the deck with it ! So now it is nice out ,and my kids want to play outside and part of the deck is missing and the awning is across the lawn ! The baby almost fell off the deck last week Chat Icon So I called ,and he tells me that he will be up in may and will deal with it then Chat Icon Chat Icon

understandable that dh is upset. I would try to ask the landlord for at least a heads up next time.

IF my landlords had asked, we would have just told them to have them come earlier! Poor ChrisChat Icon

While I'd probably be mad I'd also know that even if you asked them to do it say every thursday that day would always change due to weather. So I think I'd get over pretty quick

I work nights to and the world is not made for night workers. People assume it's daytime and you should be awake. Is it rude for them to show up without warning... absolutely. I don't know how your DH responded so I can't answer the second part.

He didn't respond at all, lol. He just biitched at me that they shouldn't working...

I guess b/c we've lived here so long (and this isn't the first issue we've had DH's sleep and them sending people over and DH complained to them then...) we are annoyed

And ITA with you MelChat Icon

Well, when they had a service come last summer, they did come every Friday, so if DH was working, he amended his sleep schedule to that

I think they could have given you a call, but don't necessarily have to cater to your schedules.

WHAT? Between DS napping and DH sleeping, they SHOULDChat Icon

Just kidding, I would have just asked them to come before 12, DH is fine as long as he is sleeping by 12-1.

If they catered to our schedules they could get it done between 9 and 9:25pmChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ITA. I think it would be overly nice of a landlord to factor these things in. Sometimes you just schedule something when the availability exists and may not be able to consult the tenants.

Maybe the landlords didn't know. Our landscapers don't tell us in advance when they are coming for the spring cleanup. They just show up.

Re: Is this rude or is DH overreacting?

As someone who has a hubby who needs to sleep during the day, I can tell you that while he'd be annoyed, he'd understand that sometimes you can't do much about it.
If you were the ones paying for it, I'd say it'd be fine to ask to move to another day, but since they're paying for it, I don't think you can really ask.

They should have let you know ahead of time. Who wants strange people knocking on their door early in the morning?

I was thinking this same thing. They show up when they want...it is nervy to demand you move toys and all that, I mean what if you weren't home?
