Im really torn and not sure what to do

(i will appoligize in advance for this being so long)

we should be getting a closing date any day now the current owners want to close no later then 4/10 so it should be VERY soon. Dh and i were discussing who should go where and what we should do as far as lay out.

a little background info... we purchased a legal 2 family. Our part of the home techinically only has 2 bedrooms. They made a master "suite" in the basement, which really isnt a basement its only a few steps downstairs and the stairs are in the livingroom (ill post a pic below) Its 2 rooms and a FULL bathroom. At the time we thought it was perfect.

Now we had originally planning on living in the large bedroom on the main floor next to the babys room. turning the master suite into an office/playroom. BUT heres where we come the the issue... We have decided that we want to have another baby, and want to plan to ttc next year. which bring on "where do we put baby #2?" since we only have 2 bdrooms on the main floor the 3rd room is downstairs.

Now i dont really want to live in the basement sincethe windows are small and its kind of dark (DH says its very easy to make the windows bigger he did it at his parents home) and our babies would be upstairs on the other side of the house. but i also like knowing that the kids would each have their own room and We would have our own room and bathroom

The original home had 3 bedrooms on the main level but they turned one into the dining room and took out the closet and its IN the kitchen so for me turning that back into a bedroom isnt an option since it would totally disturb the baby if that was its room.

So we discussed puttin on an extension to add a bedroom or 2 but thsts not an option either since it would be too costly. EVENTUALLY our plan is to take over the 2nd story of our home thats being rented out and making that 4 large bedrooms. but this will not be happening for at least 5 years.

so these are our options WWYD?

1. put abby in the little room, we take the big room and worry about a 2nd baby when the time comes. (my concern with this is we want to have a baby with in thenext 2 years so not only would we have to redo a room for the baby but we would then have to rotate EVERYONE and redo all the rooms.)

2. Put abby in the large room, leaving small one for baby #2 and enjoy the large master suite downstairs. (and NOT worry about the babies on the other side of the house)

3. Put the babies in the basement and we take the large room upstairs.

4. Other because you have come up with something we didnt!

if you made it this far you rock thanks for reading! im really torn and i dont know what to do!

Okay, not sure if I got all that but could YOU take the small room? Give abby the big room and then put the new baby in there with her when the time comes?

Then, later on you could worry about separating the little ones into two different rooms.

If that isn't an option, my friend is on the second floor and both her kids are on the third floor and she said that once she got used to it, it worked out really well for them - the kids sleep better because they aren't disturbed, THEY feel like they have privacy and they just use monitors and baby gates to make sure that they are safe. . .

Hey Meg- You know my situation. My boys are on the main floor and we are upstairs. At first we were nervous but not anymore. It's not so bad. I would move into the basement if it's bigger and you like it or I would move into the room next to abby and worry about it when the other baby comes along.

Right now we are working with the architect, I can't wait to start actually ripping stuff down and getting started. We can't start until the weather is warmer and we need some dry days since we wont have a roof for a few days Chat Icon but hopefully we will be celebrating Christmas in our new home!
