Can you do spin? It requires leaning on the bike which might be hard n the back.... What kind of back problems do you have?
If you have a weak core, that could contribute to back problems - you may want to do core work until you feel stronger and then incorporate more cardio.
Start with weight training and yoga and pilates. Then get a good sneaker with cushioning for shock absorbency and walk for your cardio....

I was going to suggest the samething. I had a weak back and doing pilates really helped strengthen it.

Yoga definitely. Like Liza said, you have to build your core strength. This will help the lower back issues considerably

I think Yoga would probably be the best.

I am by no means an athlete and recently starting going to hot yoga regularly and I absolutely love it.
The one by me in Massapequa has a special----10 days of unlimited hot yoga for $20.00 so you can see if you like it or not.
Many people in there have had injuries or are not in shape.
I also think the rates are pretty affordable if you decide you want to stick to it.

I agree about hot yoga & walking! Not only will they help you stay in shape, but they may help your back pain improve.
