I need 5K race help!!!!
I am running a 5K is April.. I have been doing intervals... and running distance... I cant seem to get past 2 miles!!!!! Any advice?!?! I just want to succeed! This is my first race and a personal goal for me... HELP!!!!!

are you running on a treadmill? maybe each day you could add .10 distance till you reach a mile.

Yes... thats a good idea.. I have to start running outside too.. its so much harder than the treadmill... and now that its nice out....

you definitely want to get outside to get a feel of outside running before the race.
there are a couple of things you can do...
run a mile - walk a min (or another combination that would work for you)
or
slow down your pace considerably. for your longest run you should be going 45-90+ seconds slower every mile than you expect to go during the race. It will feel slow and that's OK. You should be able to hold a conversation with someone.

maybe slow down your pace. i did a couple of 5ks and my pace was a slow jog. i just wanted to fiinish it.

I think if you can do 2 miles, you will be fine. You will be so pumped up by being at a race, it will help you finsih that last mile and change! You will be great!

Thanks!! Its my first race... so Im really nervous!! Plus its a district thing, and my students and parents are going to be there.. I dont want to embarrass myself!!!!! I did 2.5 miles outside tuesday.... I just had to bust through it.....

I highly recommend this!!
Definitely try the couch to 5K. It literally got me from not running to running 3 miles. You can download free podcasts from itunes that will guide you through it.

I agree the adrenaline (and fear of embarrassment) will help you.
How old are your students? Kids just don't have the stamina/control to run a 5K, so I don't think you will do as bad as you think. or you can do what my principal does...stays in the back to make sure everyone makes it

I run them all the time on a treadmill. Honestly, just run on a speed thats comfortable for you to get through all 3.1 miles. Only you know what that speed is.
I can't beat my time and there are just days that I can't push through, its so weird. I can def run the full run but some days are much easier than others...
