Question: my town has a bit of a wild fox problem

I have seen fox in my yard as close as 6 feet to my kids over the xmas break,
I called everyone.
I asked the vet-he said if I am still seeing it its fine if it had rabies it would be dead by now.
Bottom line-now its sitting 3 feet out my back door!
its bad enough Olaf is not so good but def cannot outrun a fox.
I def think a fox would run away from the dogs and quickly..but I dk anything about wild fox on Eastern Long Island.
I saw them years ago but now we have it to the point where 1 in the afternoon u see them walking down the street.
My friend heard through people-fireIsland was overwhelmed and she was told someone trapped them and drove them over by ferry.
i called Wildlife control-I like them though and they have been around for months according to my neighbors and no problems so I just dk

Where town are you in? Just curious where the foxes are. In the past I've seen them on the side of the road hit by cars but it's been a while.

Bayport and it is the norm to just see them walk down the street all of a sudden.
Everyone has them!

Usually people are way too big for a fox to even think of messing with. Do you have small pets? I would worry about small pets and cats that go outside alone, but not a larger dog or a dog being walked.

There are fox all over Connetquot Park, which I have hiked and ridden in many times - none would get too close to us, though they used to "stalk" us when we were far away from them -- because we looked small from far away. Chat Icon Once we got closer, they ran away.

It sounds like the ones in your neighborhood are getting a little too used to people / too tame?

Yes we are infested! its possible if the story is true and they were dumped here to multiply they were tamed.
I mean they feed the deer there so who knows.
I definitely never feel it as a threat and they go around everyone's small kids.
I was just worried for safety sake.
I mean Lord, I can let the dogs in at night and let the fox in too! kwim?
no small animals. I foster cared for a pig and now I know why it would never go in the back where the fox crosses from yard to yard alone.
I myself was dying for a pic in the snow today of it!
I also have moles and they eat meat-the moles have been here for years and neverrrrr destroyed anything so I live and let live. I like them.
I just find it so interesting!
I guess my parrot is never going outside on a perch with his wings clipped!
