Manhattan hotels... not too pricey?
Can someone recommend a hotel nearish to times square that is in a safe place but not too crazy pricey?
My friend and her brother are coming to NYC in a few weeks. They are from a small town and haven't traveled tons (she has a bit but her brother not so much) don't really want to use the subway so I'm looking for something not too too far.
TIA

I stayed at the New Yorker hotel. The lobby is so pretty and there is security by the elevators so only folks with rooms go up. It has history, a classic diner, right by penn station, 8 blocks from times square which is walkable. I got it for about 200ish per night which I think is good for the city, on orbitz. I've also stayed at the Marriott by Bryant Park about 3 years ago but that was free because we opened a bank account are banks still doing that?
I just read that New York city is one of the safest cities in America

Check out Club Quarters - they have a couple of midtown locations.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn on 35th and Broadway right by Herald Sq. last week and it was $159 a night incl. breakfast

I agree with this BUT you may not get the location you are looking for.
the Sheraton Towers and the Hilton are a little further up (around Carnegie Hall) and are both less than $250 per night, which for NYC isn't bad.

Ok, they got the Wyndham Wingate (or vice versa) near that Hampton Inn for $118/night. Anyone know how good that hotel is?
TY for the suggestions!

I agree. Club Quarters is also very reasonable. My DH's aunt used priceline to book and got a great rate this past summer.
