moving and need advice on which town...
hi. we're a young middle class family from the north fork and we need to move closer to the middle of the island for my husbands job. we just want good schools and a nice town, hopefully with not a lot of traffic. we would be renting to start. these are the towns that look good from what i've read online but i was hoping for some opinions from people who are familiar with the areas. any feedback good or bad would be appreciated. thanks!
manorville
wading river
shoreham
rocky point
sound beach
miller place
mt sinai

Out of the towns you chose, I would try to go with Mt.Sinai or Miller Place

i dont know much about manorville, but I would live in any of the other towns with no problem, especially if you are renting- they are all close to each other Pt Jeff and Setauket are also nice, those are the two towns further west of Mt.Sinai

I think they are all nice however I would stay clear of the riverhead school district. If you are sending to private school then it wouldnt matter. but then again by the time our kids get to the school system it may be better. good luck

My brother and sister went there ,and it was not a very good school , from what they told me ...they were tortured by other kids ,and there was alot of violence ! My brother was poked with pencils by a crowd of kids everyday, until he dropped out !

Yes I would definitely stay away from Riverhead SD. That would mean parts of Wading River would definitely be out. Not sure if parts of Manorville go to Riverhead.

 That's so sad! I went there a long time ago...the academics / extracurriculars were great then, but I don't remember it being violent.

If it were me, my choices would go in this order:
miller place or mount sinai
shoreham
manorville
rocky point
sound beach
wading river
All of those areas are nice though - should be able to get a great investment. My sister flipped a house in Miller Place.
ETA: I agree w/ previous posters about Riverhead. Rough SD for sure.

Me too. I would not buy in the Riverhead district, no way.
