Re: slow and sleepy breastfeeder!
I was told that often moms bundle their babies up too much. Take off their socks and other warming clothing. That may help keep the baby awake more. Also try tickling her feet when she starts to get sleepy while feeding.

yes -- and tickle her face! when i was trying to breastfeed everyone recommended undressing he rand changing her diaper before i tried to feed her so she'd be awake and alert.

Re: slow and sleepy breastfeeder!
She will get more awake when she gets a little older I tried everything and she fell asleep anyway so eventually I just let her go to sleep she will eat when she's hungry. I felt even more okay about it when I saw at the ped that she was gaining weight so she must have been eating enough hang in there

Re: slow and sleepy breastfeeder!
In the beginning I'd nurse her for an hour straight at times, then she'd fall asleep on me and I'd be stuck on the couch for another hour. LOL. Boy did my butt hurt. hehe.
My advice, rent lots and lots of movies and buy Tivo!

Re: slow and sleepy breastfeeder!
In the beginning I would nurse Christopher for 20 mins on each side. He would always fall asleep, but I didn't let him go for longer (on advice of dr). The dr said that you shouldn't let him stay longer than that because taking him off will teach him to **** more efficiently next time. (I'm not sure if that really worked or not).
Here are some things I did to try to keep him awake: change him before each nursing session undress him when he would begin to fall asleep tickle his feet tickle underneath his chin talk to him to try to wake him up
He'll be 12 weeks tomorrow and he's a much better nurser now. At some point they just learn. Hang in there!
