Warning - Blydenburgh - Bullmastiff tried to bite me
I took Brinkley and Ginger over to Blydenburgh about an hour and a half ago. I figured there wouldn't be that many people there, it being a Tuesday afternoon. I was right.
I know my dogs are disciplined but you never know what will happen with a mix of dogs, so I followed them both around. Called them back to me from time to time and praised them up for it. Everything was great.
Then I keep seeing this one smaller dog trying to hump Brinkley. Thankfully, Brinkley knows not to snap at them, and he just tries to get away or sit down. But this dog wouldn't stop. So I went over to get him to me, since the other one had him so tight he couldn't walk and of course who knows where the owner was.
The other dog couldn't reach my hand so I reach down with my right and hook my fingers under Brinkley's collar to pull him forward when suddenly, I feel a MOUTH around my left arm.
I swing around and there's a Bullmastiff, narrowly missing my middle forearm. I had already been swinging my arm back towards my body. If I hadn't, I don't know what would have happened.
It's teeth grazed the outside of my arm and snagged my jacket but didn't rip it. My first thought was to get Brinkley and I the f*ck away from there and as I'm escaping I hear someone say, "What happened?" and a guy answer "He just caught that lady's jacket." Like it was no big deal!!
Now, normally I would be freaking out on an idiot like that but all I could think of was to find Ginger and get them both to the other end of the park. I turned around once to look back, and they're still standing there.
When I got to the other end, I see Ginger go back and sniff the Bullmastiff's butt and I freeze thinking "Oh please no, not my girl!". The Bullmastiff looks RIGHT at me and holds my gaze, taking a few tense steps towards me. I'm thinking what the HELL is this dog still doing here?!
I was prepping to leave with Brinkley and Ginger when I turn around again and they're finally gone.
I'm disgusted with sh*t dog owners who can't control their dogs and don't care to. Here's a clue, if your dog lunges, snaps, is protective of toys or bones, or humps constantly DON'T BRING THEM TO THE F ING DOG PARK!!!!!!!!!

I am glad you all are ok!! I was going to ask you today how Ginger was doing! Yes, that dog does not belong there. I probably would have snapped at the owner myself.

Re: Warning - Blydenburgh - Bullmastiff tried to bite me
You know how you go over things in your mind later, and think of all the things you would have wanted to say? I go there so seldom that looking out for the problem dogs before we go in wouldn't be feasible.
I just hate when owners just let a dog dominate, let their bad habits go unchecked, and then think HEY! Let's go put the dog in the middle of a pack of 25 unknown dogs and people! Great idea!!
There was a boxer with a huge black collar on with bright yellow letters that said DO NOT PET.
I think I have to stick to playdates from now on.

Omg Greeny, I'm glad you and your dogs are ok!!!! How scary that must've been!!
We've gone there a bunch of times and overall it's a pretty good park. There was a small fight once (thankfully Kasey wasn't involved) but at least the owners took care of it right away.
Maybe they thought it would be ok since it's a weekday and it would be less crowded. Hopefully they'll better train their dogs and be more on top of them in the future!!

thank god you are all ok. I hate owners like that. you shouldn't have to be afraid to take your own dog to the park. I'm sure play dates are much more fun anyway.

Re: Warning - Blydenburgh - Bullmastiff tried to bite me
I had an even worse experience at Blydenburgh......my poor boy was getting harassed by some stupid *** jack russel terrier the whole time.
Then Norway runs by me and there's blood all over the side of his head
We wound having to rush him to the vet and he wound up with stitches in his ear and had to wear a cone for 5 weeks.
We stayed away for a loooooooooooooooooong time. I only recently started bringing him back.
Don't let one bad experience ruin it for you

We had a bad incident there that's why we don't go anymore. Some idiot had his Pit Bull in the small dog area on a leash. The small dogs were going up to him and sniffing and the dog was growling and snapping at them. I said something to the guy and he said he can't have his dog in the large area because she gets into fights!

Re: Warning - Blydenburgh - Bullmastiff tried to bite me
See that's just it, it's not one experience unfortunately. There is some kind of fighting or excessive humping instance every time. Whether it's my dog or someone else's. It's just a crap shoot because you never know about all the other dogs and owners. It's a risk I'm no longer willing to take now that we have 2 dogs and they have each other for companionship, you know? I just don't need it as much as I used to, and I certainly don't need a risk of getting bitten or my dogs getting hurt. I'm really sorry that yours did, that's just terrible. Do ears take longer to heal? Five weeks is so long.
So, we're sticking to my Meetup group and all the friends we have playdates with. We're lucky that we have found people who have well behaved and non-aggressive dogs. Besides, there's something about having friends who love their dogs as much as you do, and you can be yourself around. It's pretty special.

Just read my post again and wanted to explain about the humping. I know a lot of people consider it 'no big deal' but it is an indication of dominance and/or a lack of training. In specific situations, it's expected, like a new dog coming to another dog's home. But an owner shouldn't accept it. And if they do, they're not the kind of people we want to be around.

ugh, the rottie that we are watching for my IL's is constantly trying to hump (he moreso "air humps" ) my mom's small dog (who we are ALSO watching - it is like an ***** funny farm in my house - 3 dogs, 2 kids, )
anyway, when bullet tries to air hump harry, I correct him and he stops but he CONTINUES to do it, so annoying and I know that it is a sign of dominance
anything else I can do. We will only have bullet for a few more days (hopefully) and then he is going back home

Re: Warning - Blydenburgh - Bullmastiff tried to bite me
Between the size of the dogs and that they're in a new place they're trying to "claim", it might not be feasible to expect to correct it before they leave. My command for that is "OFF!". Brinkley did it to one dog at our house and one at doggie day care. We broke him of the habit after that and we haven't seen him do it since. But it did take time, and that command coming from me, the one he seeks approval and affection from, will have more weight than a stranger or someone he sees occasionally.
You could try leaving a leash on him and when he does it, pulling the leash as well as using the same command. I'd only say the command once and pull him. Each time you repeat yourself, you lose authority with them.
Good luck, hope your house goes back to normal soon!
