My MIL's new dog has a cough
The rescue lady said to give her dimeatapp for children 3 times a day in a dropper. I gave her 1 teaspoon this morning but she is coughing a lot....I feel bad for her

Re: My MIL's new dog has a cough
Dimetapp? Why does she have a cough? She better get that dog to the vet asap.

Re: My MIL's new dog has a cough
Definitely get her to a vert - she probably has kennel cough and needs to be on antibiotics - NOT Dimetapp.

Re: My MIL's new dog has a cough
I'd definitely go to the vet to make sure this is nothing contagious -- I think I saw you posted that you guys are staying with your ILs with your dog while your house in under construction.
Good luck!

Re: My MIL's new dog has a cough
Def sounds like kennel cough. When we got Toby he was really really sick for a week with it. He was on antibiotics.

I am so glad to hear this. What I would like to know was did you guys tell the vet they had her taking DIMETAPP and was that even safe for her??? I hope she is ok. I don't get why the rescuers had her taking that when she needed more medical care.
I know, it's water under the bridge now but I just can't help but wonder.
I am so glad she is going to be ok.

Re: My MIL's new dog has a cough
The doc said to make sure they do not share food and toys - which they do not.

My dogs got kennel cough from the groomer once. It cleared up within 48 hours once they were on meds. Hope she gets well soon - and make sure you keep her away from your dog as much as possible until she is done with her meds.

Re: My MIL's new dog has a cough
Coughing is also a sign of heart disease, fluid in the lungs. This is one of the first signs. It is often passed off for kennel cough. I would get to a vet asap.

Re: My MIL's new dog has a cough
She was originally taking Baytril but it was making her throw up. Now the dog is on another medicine and she seems like she is getting better. She still has a few days on the meds
