London and ????

We're going to London this summer to see an old friend and we'd like to stop somewhere else in Europe. Neither one of us has ever been to Europe and we don't know what other country to visit for our first time there. What country would you suggest, and how would you suggest traveling from London to the next destination? We're probably going to stay in London for 3 or 4 days and then another 4 days somewhere else. Thanks in advance!

Re: London and ????

we did London and Amsterdam last March and it was awesome. Two totally different cities, different food, it was great. We flew on BMI (British Midland) from London to Amsterdam but I just saw on their website that they're not flying to Amsterdam starting the end of March. We stayed 4 days in each place and it was a perfect amount of time. Good luck!

Re: London and ????

I'd do London and Paris. Paris is lovely.

Rome or Barcelona aren't bad bets either.

I would pick either France or Italy. France would be easier and Paris is a gorgeous city (although so is Rome, Florence etc) you can't go wrong with most of the choices.

Amsterdam is a great place to visit too - but if you have never been to Europe and only have a limited time I would chose France or somewhere else before going there.

There is so much to do in these cities that really 4 days is more of a teaser - then you can see what you enjoyed and plan a more in depth trip later.

Re: London and ????

How many days do you have? If you don't have a lot, I'd go with Paris since you can take the train and won't lose a lot of time travelling.

London to Paris is a great trip. You can take the chunnel or a short flight, so you don't have to waste time in transit. Paris is such a fabulous city to visit, very walkable, and 4 days is a good amount of time to explore the city.

Why, Manchester of course! Only 2 hours away by train and its the gateway to the Lake District!

But seriously, I would do Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam is okay, but Paris or Barcelona would be my choices.

Definitely Paris. I would also say Dublin because I LOVE that city and Ireland in general.

Paris!!!!!!

So easy to get to from London via Eurostar -- and you could get GREAT rates if you are able to book the mini-break prices. (We paid 57 pounds a person round trip when we were in London in November....did 1 day in Paris and it was a nice ride on the train.)

Can you take me with you in your suitcase? I miss those 2 cities so much!
