Yet another ? about grieving taxes
My MIL said that you can do this online, yet she hasn't given me the website. DH said we got something in the mail to do it (I have yet to see this paper). How do you go about grieving taxes? We live in an incorporate village so we pay both nassau county and village taxes. Do we grieve both?

Re: Yet another ? about grieving taxes
I don't know anything about the village taxes, but we are in the process of doing it ourselves. DH went down to the town and he was told that we either need a recent appraisal OR 3 comparable homes to submit with the application. We just bought the house so we can use the appraisal and skip paying a company to grieve for us.
I would call your towns and find out. It's very easy to do on your own.

Yuo can print out the complaint form yourself. Go to www.orps.state.ny.us and you will see the grievance application.
In Nassau County you must file the grievance with the County not the Town.
If you live in an incorporated Village you must protest the Village taxes separately. Villages have different grievance periods (most are the first day of February through the third Tuesday).
good luck.
