Mexico and Drug Cartels
We are looking into Mexico and my father insists that people aren't going anymore because of the drug cartels taking over hotels. Has anyone heard anything before I book it? TIA

Do we have the same father? My Dad begged me to change my plans and not go to Mexico last September (because of the drug wars and H1N1). If you're going to the Cancun/Riviera Maya areas, there's nothing to really worry about. You run the same risks taking a trip into NYC.

Of course you should always be careful and use common sense in a country that has a higher crime rate, but people are still going to the resort areas on a regular basis and living to tell about it.

just went to Riviera Maya in December, took tours to Chichen Itza and to snorkel...no problems at all!

Ditto. We were in Playa Del Carmen for 6 weeks over the summer. Mexico City can be a very dangerous place though so I wouldn't go there.

The Rivera Maya resorts are actually run by a lot of drug cartels so they are very safe! They don't want to ruin their income!
