Appt w/ RE on 2/2- have some ?s
Hi Ladies- I haven't been on in a while, been really busy and then I got the flu
I started charting in September and so far only ovulated one time since then. Funny thing is that my 'cycles' have been pretty regular for these past few months. I saw my OB and he thinks I have PCOS. All hormones were normal except I have the classic 3:1 LH-FSH levels. He wanted to put me on clomid immediately even though I wanted to try metformin first. I actually just made an appointment with a RE for next month and hope he can tell me if I have PCOS and will work with me on a TTC plan I'm comfortable with. I have a few questions:
1- should DH come with me? 2- how long does a consult usually last? 3- they told me that are sending me a registration packet and questionnaire. any diea how in-depth these usually are. 4- i was thinking i'd bring my charts. any suggestions on what else to bring with me?
Thanks!

It def sounds like PCOS – I also have LH:FSH 3:1. Do you constantly get +OPK’s and no O? That’s how I knew I had an LH issue. I don’t get AF regularly though. Even if you have been getting “AF” if you haven’t been Oing you should def get treated by an RE. Which one are you planning to see?
That being said:
1- should DH come with me? If you want – its not 100% necessary. Mine didn’t but I think most women’s on here did. 2- how long does a consult usually last? Im sure it depends on which doctor you are seeing but mine was about 25 minutes total – not including wait time. 10-15 minutes of talking in the office, an internal sono, and bloodwork. If you have any historical info they may not need to even do the internal sono – some do, some don’t. I didn’t have any history to take with me when I went. It wasn’t an issue though. 3- they told me that are sending me a registration packet and questionnaire. any diea how in-depth these usually are. – once again im sure if varies based on doctor – but the one I filled out was fairly basic. Four pages or so, just questions on history and issues and family history. 4- i was thinking i'd bring my charts. any suggestions on what else to bring with me? def bring your charts 100%.and if you have gyno history, bloodwork, sonos, etc… bring that. but if you don’t have that its fine too.
Good luck!

Re: Appt w/ RE on 2/2- have some ?s
Thank you for the info! I only used OPKs during my November and december cycles. In November, I only got a positive on two days and I ovulated right around that time. I am still technically in my December cycle (DC 1 was 12/21). I took OPKs for about 2 weeks and got all negatives. Also according to my chart, no O- but then again my temps were all over the place during the holidays b/c of erratic sleep hours, alcohol, and getting sick.
But, I also definitely didn't O in Sept and Oct
I live in NJ and am seeing Dr. Cho from University Reproductive Associates.

1- should DH come with me? Mine did, he wanted to know about the course of treatment as well. And most RE's will order an SA from your DH if there isn't a recent one done anyway, so it helps to have him there and understand why it's needed.
2- how long does a consult usually last? Depends.. our first one was about 1/2 an hour with the dr.
3- they told me that are sending me a registration packet and questionnaire. any diea how in-depth these usually are. Mine was more about making sure i knew what my insurance covered and if i needed pre-certification (you really need to double/triple check that), then filling out your basic personal info for their records.
4- i was thinking i'd bring my charts. any suggestions on what else to bring with me? My RE didn't want/need the charts, but they were helpful for me in referencing my history in discussion with him. They usually request your GYN to send over your latest exam results as well
good luck!!
Thanks!

Re: Appt w/ RE on 2/2- have some ?s
When I first met with Dr Braverman, the consult was about an hour. I would bring whatever you have; I didnt and it was something I had to do after I met with him. I always bring my DH because I get so overwhelmed with info that I need him there to sort it out so Im not constantly thinking the worst.
Good luck!!
