Which gym would you join? (with poll)

I have to do something about my weight....it's getting out of hand. I have 3 gyms close to my house, so I'm trying to figure out which one would be best for me...

Lucille Roberts - I've been a member in the past, and I like that it's all women and not expensive, but their class schedule is pretty limited and their hours aren't great.

Gold's Gym - I went to a class there and am completely intimidated by the size of the place. I also feel like it's a really serious gym, and I'm not in fantastic shape, so I think I'd stick out. I also have no idea how much it would cost to join, or what the monthly fee would be.

LA Fitness - I've heard good things about it, seems to have a variety of classes offered. Not sure about price though.

Does anyone have any insight on any of the three? What do you like/dislike? Which would you recommend?
And if anyone knows how much any of them cost, that would be great also!

It sounds like classes are the most important aspect to you

So based on that I would go with la fitness

I just started taking a class and I love it! I am more of a run on the treadmill person but this class pushes me to work harder then I could ever make myself

The only one I'm familiar with is Lucille Roberts, and I would not recommend it. I have a tennis membership at Sportime in Kings Park, and I like it a lot. They have a ton of classes in the morning and afternoons, as well as gym equipment.

I have no idea how much LA fitness cost- I would assume about what NYSC cost? $60-$70 a month

I belong to LA Fitness (the one in Lake Success) and I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE them... The gym is so big I never have to wait for a machine, etc.

I would go with LA Fitness.

I wish there was one closer to my house - I would have to drive about 20 mins & thats just not happening.

Plus, its much cheaper than NYSC (which I belong to now & think they are overpriced for what they offer).

I have always disliked Lucille Roberts - you always have to wait for a machine & than you are timed once you're on it & b itches will let you know if you are 2 secs over.

i'm at la fitness and i really like the classes. the instructors are really nice. it is a little expensive but i think it offers a lot. fm me if you want more detail.

I would pick a more serious gym just because you can observe others and pick up ideas on what to do. And you'll be working out so even though you may feel like you stick out now, you'll be in shape in no time and maybe it'll motivate you.

Neither... I joined planet fitness!! I cant wait!! Planet fitness is 10 dollars a month, 1 dollar down. And for the whole year its going to cost me 120.00
dollars.

I first go by hours - since I like to go in the early hours. then I would go by location to my house

My DH goes to LA Fitness - I think he paid $99 to sign up. I know the monthly fee he is paying is $49.99

Please do not considering Planet Fitness, whatever you do. Their motto is that it's a "No Judgement Zone", and they actually have Pizza Nights, and Bagels on the weekends. It's ***** terrible.

I would go LA Fitness ALL the way. Good Luck and kudos to you for wanting to get into shape!

for me, i would pick the gym closest to home-just easier i think. i belong to golds (EN) and am not serious. i just show up, do my thing and leave..

i don't know anything about any of the gyms you posted but i want to tell you please don't be intimidated by the size of a gym or what kind of shape you're in - in classes people are completely focused on themselves!

Just joined LR. It was $282.00 for a 2 year membership, and that includes all the classes, and going to any location.... It's $30.00 cheaper for 1 location.

ETA: It's more $ if you pay monthly. It's only 10.50 a month if you pay it up front.

i belong to LA Fitness. I joined 3 yrs ago, and this is the first gym I have consistently gone to. The class selection is great. I literally transformed myself for my wedding in 11/08. And I owe it to the Body Works classes, running and watching what I eat. The classes are a great motivator. FYI, i would not pay for a trainer there, not worth the $ IMO.

i don't know a lot about golds gym, but i used to be a member at LR years ago. i had to leave once i left retail for a m-f 9-5 job because their hours were kind of hard to fit in. and the one by me was small! only a handful of equipment so i felt like it was really just focused on classes (which were great!) but sometimes i like to get in and get out and just use a machine. i do belong to LA Fitness now. LOVE it. haven't gone much since now i work in gyms and i just workout at those, but its not too big, its well kept, the people/trainers/instructors are great, packed class sched with great choices for everyone. i would do LA F!
