the ultrascreen
I'm back from my ultrascreen too- it was done at the hospital's ultrasound center.
I'm sort of nervous b/c no one was saying anything. My friends here say that they really cannot say anything either way- so I really don't know what to think.
I know it was sort of hard to get a good image- the kid was being completely uncooperative- so the supervisor had to come in to do it (also, the first tech couldn't find my left ovary).
It was fun to hear the heartbeat and see the baby moving around- but I wish, in a way, that I didn't go and have this at all.
I was feeling so good before and now I just feel dread and worry.
I hope it's unwarranted and that the techs didn't say anything b/c they can't- but I just didn't leave with a very good feeling.
then- when they went to take the blood, they took a whole vial- i asked them why b/c I thought it was a finger prick and they said- oh we do a vial here... but who knows if they are just saying that.
ugh.
I hate this.

Re: the ultrascreen
The techs can't say anything. Trust me DH and I kept asking and all they said was that my doctor would call us and that everything looked OK, but my doctor would call me.
Don't worry everything will be OK.

Re: the ultrascreen
Sorry Dina I'm sure each place just does it different. I don't think you should worry!!! I went to a perinatolgist (sp?) so he told me right there that the nose and neck looked good and I did have the finger prick test.

Re: the ultrascreen
Were you at North Shore Manahasset? They didn't say much to me, either and I was there. The doctor had to come back in to get the measurement b/c the baby was not cooperating and she said, "everything looks fine, I just want to try to get a better shot." But that's all she said -- it may be there policy not to say much one way or another.
I wouldn't be too concerned. It's just a screening test, so the results aren't conclusive one way or another.
ETA: If the doctor hadn't come in I probably wouldn't have heard anything b/c the techs legally can't say anything (I read somewhere that if they say anything diagnostic that woud be practicing medicine, which they can't do).

Re: the ultrascreen
I know its hard NOT to worry, but please try not to worry about this..
Before I went for my ultrascreen at the hospital, my OB had 'warned' me (knowing I'm a nervous type) that most often the technicans are not allowed to say anything one way or another while they are doing the U/S. So she told me that even if I asked if everything was ok, etc, most likely they wouldn't tell me one way or another..
It turned out that my technican was VERY chatty and nice and did say that it all looked "good" BUT in the same breath, she emphasized that I'd have to wait for my blood results and to hear from my doctor before we could get the final results of the screening ..
Our baby wouldn't cooperate at ALL either during the ultrascreen. He/she was 'sleeping' and wouldn't wake up at all even when the tech was sort of 'hitting' my tummy... so I had to get up, walk around, (I started worrying) and then had the blood work done before the tech. tried to take the measurements again...at that point, the tech could take the measurements.. but even THEN the baby wasn't exactly easy about it!
Every hospital is different, and some technicans are just better than others at these things - what always stinks for us is when we get someone unexperienced or a little cold and its inevitable that we start to think "is something wrong?..."
Hang in there - I'm sure all will be OK!!

Re: the ultrascreen
i have had horrible bedside manner from many of my dr.'s throughout this pregnancy so i feel your pain...
i only had 1 technician who was friendly even though she was not allowed to say anything.
try not to worry before you get to speak to your OB, easier said than done...

I am sure everything is ok!!!! Don't worry. The only thing the tech said to me the whole time was that everything looked fine. Other then that it was silence.

My sister is a tech, can't say a word for exactly this reason. After all, there isn't a Dr. in front of the Techs name
Don't stress out yourself or your baby.

Re: the ultrascreen
Thanks- you've made me feel better.
plus- the first tech couldn't even find my left ovary- so maybe she just wasn't very good (her supervisor came in and found it right away)...
and then the first tech said, "you have a tiled uterus"... i was like OK- but no one has ever said that- weird.
