What are some possible reasons for dog puking?
Bowie puked all over the house, and I mean a lot of puke. He puked in his crate, and I didn't realize until I heard him eating something and looked over and he was eating the puke. So I cleaned it up and threw the blanked in the washer and while I was in the laundry room he went into the crate and puked again. I pulled him out of there before he could eat that, and he walked all over the kitchen and living room puking. (although there wasn't much left in stomach at that point.) Then he wanted to go outside, so I let him out and he started gobbling up snow like I'd never seen him do before - like he hadn't eaten anything in days.
I called him inside and fed him, figured maybe he was hungry after all that puking. He ate the food and hasn't puked since although he went into the empty crate that I just cleaned and started licking the metal floor?
Is there any reason I should call the vet?

Maybe he was hungry. My dogs do vomit if their stomachs are empty. If he vomits up his food, more than once, I would call the vet. But if the vomiting doesn't return, that was likely the reason.

Re: What are some possible reasons for dog puking?
There are a lot of reasons - remember all the times Daisy was throwing up and our gazillion trips to the vet.
This is what I learned.
1. The dog could have swallowed something that didn't agree with it.
2. Their stomach is empty and they're hungry, but too sick to eat until they throw up
3. They're scared/nervous
4. They ate too much at the last meal.
A few things to check: -What was in the throw up? Was it just yellow/white bile? If so, stomach was empty. If brown or discolored - there was something that didn't agree with him/overfed
- Was he excessively drinking water before? If so, he could have drank too much
- Was he licking himself before? If so, check his fur coat for a foreign substance
If he still seems "out of it" try feeding him white rice with chicken to calm is stomach down. If he keeps that down without any issues for a day, you can start adding some regular dog food to it.
If you're really concerned, have him see the vet. They may end up doing an xray to see if there is anything lodged in his abdomen.
Also, another clue to look for - when he does #2 next, take a look at it and see if it looks normal and if there is anything in it that doesn't necessarily belong.

Re: What are some possible reasons for dog puking?
He definitely wasn't hungry because there chunks of food in the vomit. I saw him eating something in the back of the yard, which he used to do when there was grass there that made him throw up, so I'm thinking that was it. He hasn't thrown up since, so we'll see what happens.

For sure it was probably what he ate that upset his stomach. My dogs vomit if they eat dirt, or grass, etc. So he will probably feel better tomorrow. I hope.

My MIL's dog pukes whenver she drinks her water too fast -- so she says, maybe that's the case

My dog suffers from empty tummy syndrome and recently it got really bad so she is now on medication to combat acid buildup. But the vomit is clear/foamy, not food.

Re: What are some possible reasons for dog puking?
my dog had allergies to his food and would regurgitate after every meal. There were whole chunks of food in his vomit and he would try to re-eat it. I changed his food and I have never had the problem again. (This problem last about 2 months).
