Ever take your dog on the PJ/Bridgeport ferry?
We're going to CT and have a lot of stops to make before we return home the same day. The PJ ferry is about 10 minutes from our house.
We are going to meet potential dogs for adoption so we're bringing Brinkley with us. I have taken the Orient Point ferry and seen dogs in the cabin so I figured they allowed them in non-food areas.
So I called the PJ ferry to make sure and they said we have two options: walk him outside on the decks or leave him in the car. Damn.
We're actually considering bringing a plastic portable seat & a blanket so we can sit on the deck wherever it's sheltered from the wind and take turns going inside to warm up.
I wonder how people with dogs like greyhounds that don't have a warm coat do this. I guess they just drive and not take the ferry at all; but that would add 70 miles to our trip.

Re: Ever take your dog on the PJ/Bridgeport ferry?
I just had an idea and called back; we are allowed to stay in the car while the ferry is in motion. I thought you weren't allowed on the Orient Point ferry but apparently you can on PJ.
If we're in an open area of the boat, we could turn the car on and blast the heat once in a while too. Looks like that's our best solution.
The reason why we want to stay with him is because he can get pretty nervous and fearful about new situations. He's never been on a boat, or stayed alone in the car that long before. I don't know if he'll get motion sickness or not, and I'm hoping the seas are calm that day!

We've taken our dogs on the ferries..usually the Orient Pt one..and one trip the weather was bad so we just sat in the cabin with them as well as other dog people...as far from the food area as possible...i wish places were more dog friendly..good luck!

We'd taken one of our dogs (the golden) on the PJ Ferry when we'd go to BIL's house in CT. We'd stay in the car with him.
He didn't like the stairs so much on the boat so I think we may have taken him out on deck the first time and then not on subsequent trips.
Good luck!!

I think sitting in the car with him is the only way to go.

Ohhhh I didn't even think of that, thank you. I forgot how many stairs there were, Brinkley really doesn't like them much either and has to be coaxed up normal stairs; forget strange ones on a moving boat!
I guess we'll have a picnic in the car. What the heck, it will be fun!!
