so tomorrow is the big day.....UPDTAED
And I am for some reason terrified. We're taking Napoleon to get neutered. Im worried that he might resent us when we pick him up. This is the first time I've had a puppy where I had to do all these things. After I made the appointment I hung up and cried (I guess it could be the hormones too??). What should I expect tomorrow when we pick him up?
UPDATE well, my husband picked napoleon up from the Vet tongiht around 6pm. I got home from work at 7 and my heart was aching when I saw him He has that cone thing around his head so he cant lick which is understandable but its not the same napoleon...i know hes going to be groogy and stuff the rest of the day but it makes me sad. He looks so uncomfortable and he is crying and wimpering. They gave us pills for him for tomrorrow and stuff (pain and something else) I just hope that tomorrow is MUCH better for him- it really breaks my heart seeing him like this

Re: so tomorrow is the big day
Aww- I know how you feel. I dreaded it for the whole time before the appt for my cats. I cried that morning dropping them off. I just felt like they thought we were abandoning them there. It was so heartbreaking. I also worried it would change their amazing personalities or they would hate us for it.
I have to say though- they came through it so well. The girl had a more major surgery with stitches and all and even she was fine. And forget it for the boy- it was NOTHING for him- he didn't even have one stitch. They didn't hate us at all and their personalities did not change one bit. They are still big loving mushes!
I don't know if it's different for dogs than cats but it was so easy for them. They didn't even act groggy when we got them home- the worst part was trying to get them to not act so rambuncous and rest . (yeah right!)
I know it's so scary but trust me- it's worse for you than it it is for him. He will be fine and you know you are doing the best thing for him!
Good luck!

I know exactly how you feel. When Petunia went I was crying the entire day throughout the night. It was so upsetting. Good Luck. He will be fine

Re: so tomorrow is the big day
awww please try not to get upset about this. you are doing the absolute right thing for him. I was nervous going into it too, not knowing what to expect. but it was totally worth my jangled nerves. not only does it help with population control, thereby keeping puppies out of shelters, it also prevents (or eliminates maybe?) prostate issues which my family dog had when he was 14yrs old, at which point he was neutered.
My puppy was neutered at 5mos. He came home and was very groggy. He felt uncomfortable about laying down so I helped him by placing his rump on his bed so he could easily lay down. He seemed a little weirded out by the feeling (i.e. wouldn't really walk or frolick) but was more groggy than anything else. This only lasted for the evening of the procedure. He slept the entire night. The next day he was back to normal. We didn't need to put the cone on him until the next night when it began healing and itching (i imagine). I only kept it on him at night or when I couldn't supervise him (while at work) and only for a few days.
He was totally fine behavior-wise. No resentment, no fearfulness. He was his same happy go lucky little self.

I understand how you feel, I felt the same. A pit in my stomach, dread, did I make the right choice? I felt so guilty! But my boy was fine after he ran to me, whimpered a bit but was himself by the next am. And now looking back I am glad I did it for many reasons.

I know exactly how you feel - I felt the same way. I have to tell you though that they came home a little out of it but by the next morning, they were their old selves. You are doing the best thing for you dog
