Please come in if you go to NSUH

Just wondering what your experiences have been with Dr. Chu at NSUH.

I have seen her a few times now, and I have to say, I am VERY, VERY disappointed with her. She gives me NO information at all, and seems extremely annoyed when I ask questions. She is abrupt, totally unfriendly, and I just get such a bad vibe from her. She has never discussed a long-term plan with me, and truly makes me feel like an idiot when I ask questions.

I am having an IUI on Sunday, and if it is not successful, I plan to change doctors for next cycle. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks so much. Chat Icon

I strictly was a patient of Dr Rosenfeld, however Dr Chu did round #1 day #2 of IUI w/ me , I thought she was just OK. Then 2 weeks later, I had her again b/c Dr Rosenfeld was on vacation. She gave us the bad news that IUI was a bust, I totally agree w/ your description of her, she was trying to sell us IVF, very pushy, and yes, it just seemed she was very rushed. I never had her after that, I continued IUI round #2 w/ Rosenfeld and now I am pregnant w/ twins, Rosenfeld is old school and his motto is "slow and steady wins the race", both my husband and I liked him very much. Don't give up w/ NSUH, just switch Dr.'s. I was w/ NSUH since Jan 09 and got BFP in Oct 09. Hang in there!! Never Give Up!!

i go to NSUH and i go to Dr. Hershlag. Dr. Chu did my water sono and i was VERY upset with her! I told dr hershlag she could never have anything to do with me again. I thought she was exactly as you described her! rude and upset when i asked her questions. she never told me what she was doing and never prepared me for my sono. she just came in, and did the procedure, and left! I refuse to be with her.

Dr Hershlag is AMAZING. def switch and go to him!

I actually really liked Chu. However, I feel that all the doctors there (except hershlag) are so moody and it really just depends when you catch them. Rosenfeld treated me very badly the first couple of times that we met to the point where I considered switching to another practice. Ultimately though I have stuck it out and I am glad I did because I didn't lose any time. Chu actually discouraged us from moving straight to IVF after only 1 IUI but I insisted on it. I'm sorry you are having a bad experience with her.

I agree, Dr Hershlag was excellent. Very caring, thorough, and informative.

I went to NSUH and Dr. Chu was my primary doctor through the whole process. I loved her! I asked tons and tons of questions and I never got that kind of vibe from her at all.

I had 3 unmedicated IUIs, then 3 Clomid IUIs, 2 injectable IUIs, a exploratory laparoscopy and then finally IVF. She did not rush me into IVF at all, actually she took a very conservative approach.

Not every doctor is the right one for every patient, so if you are not happy switch to another doctor in the group or move to a different practice all together.

When I was at NSUH I really liked Dr. Rosenfeld (he was my primary) and Dr. Cohen (he did a few IUI's). I only spoke with Chu once on the phone she was nice enough for what I was getting from her. However, we met with Scholl for an IVF consult, both DH and I HATED him, ran out and never went back to that practice. Had I not met with him, I'd probably would have stayed there for my IVF.

Re: Please come in if you go to NSUH

Wow I am sorry you had a bad experience. I cant say anything really bad about that group they got me pregnant with my triplets thru IVF and on the first cycle and DR. Chu was the one that did the ER and transfer. I thought she was great never had any issues with her whenever I saw her in the hospital. Dr Rosenfeld is moody as well as Scholl but they are good at what they do. I was told I only had a 30% chance of even 1 egg taking bc of my age....well did I prove Scholl wrong. Anyways what ever you decide to do or whom you see I wish you all the best... Happy Holidays to you and your family....

I realize this may sound silly, but part of me thinks Dr. Chu just doesn't "like" me, so that is why I was wondering about everyone else's experiences with her.

I think I'll request an appt with Dr. Hershlag for my next cycle, if it comes to that (Chat Icon Chat Icon that it doesn't!!).

Re: Please come in if you go to NSUH

I have met Dr Scholl and he was very nice even though it was a bit strange for me to have a male do an internal exam i thought maybe it was just my inexperience with a male gyn that made me uncomfortable. After that he was good. I did also see Dr Rosenfeld and in the short period of time i spent with him he really made me feel he was nice to have as a MD

Re: Please come in if you go to NSUH

I've been with NSUH since the beginning of the year.

Dr Rosenfeld performed my 3 IUI's and my ectopic surgery.

Once I moved onto IVF, I was placed with Dr Chu as my primary doctor BUT Dr Hershlag was the Dr on call for almost all my appointments and my ER. Dr Chu did perform my ET. As I'm moving onto my FET next month I suggested transferring to Dr Hershalg as my primary (being that we bonded with him through the whole process), the nurse told us that we'd need to fill out paperwork as to why we didn't want Dr Chu as our primary and then we'd have to write a letter to Dr Hershlag and get accepted, etc (a very lenghty process and in the end NOT worth it because you never know what Doctor will be on call.... )

All in all, I'm very happy with the IVF team at NSUH. They are all very intelligent and skilled. Oh, and my experiences with the nurse staff has been fantastic!

BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!Chat Icon

Re: Please come in if you go to NSUH

I started going to NSUH in April of '09 with Dr. Rosenfeld. He did my first IUI and I got pregnant, but then miscarried. I had 2 more IUI's, one with Dr. Cohen and the other with Dr. Scholl. Didn't work. We decided in October to start IVF and techically my primary was Dr. Chu, but Dr. Scholl did my ER and Dr. Cohen did my ET. I am currently 7 weeks pregnant, and Dr. Chu has done my previous ultrasounds and I've had many other visits with her. I absolutely love every single one of them! The nursing team at NSUH is the best. They are extremely skilled and smart, not to mention, very kind and personable. They all knew me by first name basis, even the women at the front desk. I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience with them. Everyone is different.

I had the same experience with her. I liked the other doctors, especially, Dr. Rosenfeild but he doesn't do IVF.

After three failed IUIs, I took a break but I hated going back to her. I was more disappointed with her than I was with my failed IUIs. After much thought I switched to another doctor but had to see her again for one of my appointments when my doc was out of office. That was awkward, in addition to that, she was condescending and rude.

My next step is to go for IVF. I found out that with IVF, your doctor is not going to be there for all your appointments, even retrieval and transfer. I may have to see her again, especially for some thing as important as ET and transfer and I absolutely do not want to see her. I am again taking a break because I am puzzled as to what I want to do next.

If I don't have to see her I would continue my treatment at NSUH but I don't think not seeing her is possible. Because on weekends they have one doc on call, and I don't think they can make any exceptions for one patient. I hate to go to a different practice because NSUH is close to my house and work, but I may have no other choice.

For those of you who like Chu, this is nothing personal. I am not trying to bash her and I am talking about my experiences only. I went to see her after reading great reviews on this website. Unfortunately it did not work out.

Wow, sounds like we're having a similar experience. Chat Icon I have the same exact reasons/feeling for wanting to stay with NSUH, too.

And thanks for clarifying that this is just OUR experiences. No one should feel offended by this post. Chat Icon

And just for the record, aside from Dr. Chu, everyone I've dealt with at NSUH has been wonderful.

Re: Please come in if you go to NSUH

Dr. Rosenfeld was my primary doctor at NSUH though I have seen all of them except Herschlag. I liked them all.

I was an unmedicated IUI patient.
