Daisy is injured...[Updated 11-28-09]

Maybe some of you with smaller dogs could relate and offer any advice...

Saturday night....Daisy stayed at my MILs house to be a companion for her dog Teddy who is all alone since Muffy died this summer.

Anways....Daisy was playing fetch with my MIL and during one of the chases, she let out a large yelp and cry of pain that caused Teddy to run upstairs and hide under the bed. Daisy bleeds a little and my MIL is able to add a cold compress to the paw and it stops soon thereafter. MIL added a little antibiotic ointment to the area as a precaution

Daisy would not allow my MIL or FIL to touch her paw and would cry in pain if they attempted or wiggle out of their arms. She ate normally and even more than her usual amt (normally 1/2 cup/day - she at 1 cup on Saturday and Sunday and Monday).

Sunday....Daisy is limping around the house and will not put pressure on her front right paw.

Monday....I take Daisy to our vet to have her checked over. It took three of us to hold her down in order for the Vet to carefully examine her paw, nails and the areas in between. The vet cannot feel any foriegn object, sees no scar from where blood would come from, and suggested that maybe the nail was broken from within and would not be visible to us and would have to grow out. He gives her a shot of anti-inflammatory medicine and then prescibes her the pill form for 1/4 tablet twice a day.

Tuesday AM....Daisy hurred down the hall to greet me this morning, and yelped in pain and fell on the floor. I scooped her up and held her and she was crying. She is now holding her paw up and won't walk on it.

I called the vet and he's suggesting I try moving her head to the left and right gently to see if there is any reaction. If so, there could be vertebrae issues. If not, he doesn't know and said the next test would be to do xrays. He stated that her leg is not broken as there was no swelling in the area.

If you made it this far...Thank YOU!
Any advice?

Update 11/25: I called the vet. She is stll limping slightly and she won't allow us to touch or put any pressure on the paw. We moved her head around to the sides without any issues. So, the vet scheduled her for xrays for Friday. She will have to be sedated for this, but hopefully we'll get some answers.

Update 11/28: We took Daisy to the vet yesterday afternoon. She had an xray taken of her paw and the vet reviewed it with us shortly thereafter. He pointed out how to read her xray and saw that there were no fractures (including hair line fractures). There was no foreign object in her paw. So, she is to remain on the anti-inflammation meds for a few more days. She is starting to walk on the paw more often now, but she does have moments where she will keep it up, but she is starting to act more like herself.

The vet said it wasn't a sliver as dogs have a tendancy to lick their wounds and Daisy has not been touching the paw.

So, let's hope as soon as the meds are done on Sunday/Monday, she will be her regular self again! The crazy wild dog she is!Chat Icon

The x-rays would help to put my mind at ease.
Did the vet do any blood work?

so would I

my dog had an injury, was limping but (she is tough) would never cry and would run and jump anyway. well we took her to the vet, they didnt really think anything was wrong with it, esp since she didnt show any neg reaction when they manipulated it. we were thinking maybe hip displastia we took her to get xrays and sure enough, she had a broken leg and needed 2 pins put in.
