Need advice on my rehomed kitty
LuLu is very sweet, but I need some advice...
She is home all day by herself When we come home, we have Cailen who she is still afraid of, so she hides until he goes to sleep.
So, when we are alone, she wants to spend time with us, which we do, but she is up alllll night meowing and yowling for our attention We woke up at 3:30AM to pet her a little. She also keeps waking up Cailen who isn't used to those noises and it scares him late at night... and then forget it, she is in full throttle at 4:30/5AM and then Cailen is up for good....
We feel like we have a newborn all over again.
Anyone have any advice?

sounds like she needs a friend....that's what I did - Oh good God!!! Another cat????
We just took in a cat after 2 years - I don't know if I'd be able to take care of 2 - and what if they hate each other???

Re: Need advice on my rehomed kitty
I would entertain this - we are going to let more than a week go by and see if this behavior occurs but you might have a point. DH wanted to adopt this kitty - he didn't really ask me (he knew I would say yes as soon as I saw her ) so maybe I can spring kitty #2 on him? Time to hit up the shelters....

Re: Need advice on my rehomed kitty
A friend for her may definitely help. Do you know if she was ever around other kitties?
She will adjust in time, it sounds like you are doing all the right things.

My friend was home a lot with her - she lived for a while in a house with other cats but I think mostly she was alone but there were always people around....

Re: Need advice on my rehomed kitty
Sounds like your cat is sleeping during the day & than up all night because of it.
Our cat does the same thing. He's home alone until about 5 mon-fri. He goes nutty all night long.
We try to wear him out before we head to bed. DH will play with him, get him a bit riled up so he exorts energy. Most of the time, he passes out within a 1/2 hour to an hour of us going to bed.
I keep trying to convince DH to get him a playmate he keeps axing that idea. I think its because he'll be jealous of all the attention that new cat will get from Oscar

Re: Need advice on my rehomed kitty
Do you have a spare room or something that you can confine her in while you sleep? Of course you'd have to put her literbox, food, water, toys etc in there, but I find that if they get used to sleeping in a certain place, it helps.
This way she won't be free to roam around and wake your son, etc.

Re: Need advice on my rehomed kitty
I wouldn't bring another cat in. I know my cat hates other cats and getting her a friend would never work. Give it some time and things may get better.
Our cat started acting up after DD was born. She would meow at all hours of the night and use our bedroom like an olympic obstacle course. Nothing worked until we started keeping a spray bottle by the bed. When she got crazy we spritzed her with a little water, after three nights of this she was back to normal.

What if you let her sleep in the bedroom with you at night?

Re: Need advice on my rehomed kitty
have you thought about a large cage for the night (with food and water, litter pan and toys inside?) When our cat was a kitten, she would sit on my head and lick my hair, eyebrows alllll night long. We put her outside the room and then she would cry all night. We had to cage her in our room and she hated it at first. Eventually she learned that it was bedtime and went to sleep After a few weeks, she outgrew the licking and she was out of the cage and trained for sleep!
a blanket over the cage (like with birds) helped also!!

She does!
Things are getting better with her - I think she is acclimating - little by little she is calming down each night....
